Nurse warns about dangers of new TikTok trend causing explosive diarrhea

A nurse is cautioning against a recent TikTok trend in which creators are utilizing Castor Oil as a means of “detoxing”their bodies, as it has been known to result in “explosive diarrhea.”

Castor Oil has been utilized for various purposes for many years, including its use in cosmetics as a moisturizer, among other things.

Despite the fact that most of them are external applications, influencers on TikTok have recently been suggesting that individuals consume the oil in order to “detox”their bodies and achieve weight loss.

Replying to @lexxa077 Castor oil is FDA approved as a laxative. It stimulates the bowel muscles to give you a good seasonal cleanse. 1 tsp for 2 days is all that you need 😱🥰 #coloncleanse #coloncleanser #detoxification #detoxingmybody #newyeardetox #detoxingtea

In an interview with Newsweek, Nurse Jane Clarke cautioned against the popular trend, emphasizing that it can lead to harmful side effects.

According to her, the most prevalent and hazardous myths often seen on platforms like TikTok are not only perpetuated by creators but also frequently reinforced in the comments. These myths claim that castor oil has the power to cure all ailments, including cancer, and that it is a miraculous solution for weight loss.

It is important to note that there is no scientific evidence supporting the belief that castor oil can effectively treat serious illnesses such as cancer. These widespread claims are not true and can be potentially harmful.

Clarke further elaborated that the utilization of Castor Oil aids in expelling stool from the intestine quickly, preventing the full digestion of food and resulting in diarrhea.

“Clarke advised against ingesting castor oil, despite the claims made by TikTok influencers. Although the oil is safe for external use, it is unlikely to provide any significant benefits other than improving skin softness.”

According to WebMD, doctors may advise patients to use Castor Oil as a treatment for constipation, but caution that it can have powerful side effects.

“You may experience stomach or abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, diarrhea, or weakness while using this medication. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, please inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.”

If your doctor has instructed you to take this medication, it is important to keep in mind that they have determined that the advantages outweigh the potential risks of side effects. It is worth noting that a majority of individuals who use this medication do not experience severe side effects.

In recent years, doctors have been warning against various TikTok trends, with the most recent being the subject of concern. One trend called “Sleepy Chicken”emerged in 2022, where users cooked chicken using NyQuil. This caused many to speak out against the potentially harmful practice.
