NZXT’s NZXT Flex line has received a refresh. For only $59, you can still take advantage of the subscription model that allows you to rent a complete gaming PC. While the subscription has been available for a few months, NZXT is now revitalizing it.
According to a press release by Bryan de Zayas, the Head of Marketing for NZXT, the company’s belief is that everyone should have the opportunity to play their favorite games.
“In previous times, this entailed purchasing a pre-built computer or constructing one on your own. However, our recently introduced Flex subscription service provides gamers with greater versatility and options, allowing them to prioritize what truly matters – indulging in their favorite games.”
The service additionally provides round-the-clock support and guarantees PC upgrades every two years.
NZXT offers three monthly subscription options: $59 for the basic tier, $119 for the mid-tier, and $169 for the top-tier. Each level of the system increases in performance, starting with an Intel i5-14400F and an RTX 4060 in the lowest tier and reaching a 4070 Ti SUPER and i7-13700KF in the highest tier.
Despite its low barrier to entry for some, the costs of owning a PC over a two-year period outweigh the benefits. At the minimum level, the annual cost amounts to $700. However, as you upgrade to the “Player Three” model, the monthly cost increases to $169 and ultimately totals to $2000.
By the end of the two-year contract, you will have spent a total of $4000 on a machine that is currently being sold by NZXT for $2299.
Purchasing the necessary components for a DIY project will still amount to at least $1600, but it remains much more affordable than buying a prebuilt option.
The service does not currently offer component upgrades, but plans to do so in the near future. You will not have full ownership of the system until it has been completely paid off. If you decide to cancel your contract before it is finished, you are not required to pay the remaining balance, but you will need to return the PC.
Despite the various affordable options available for PC gaming, NZXT’s Flex has not been well received. According to users on Reddit, who have debated the topic on the platform, it is still more beneficial to either pay for a traditional build or purchase all components outright.
