Among the many mysteries that One Piece has yet to explain, the Voice of All Things is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing. This rare ability, possessed by only a select few, enables them to communicate with both animals and inanimate objects without the need for spoken words. Similar to the Will of D. or the Conqueror’s Haki, this talent is exceptionally scarce.
Individuals who harness the Voice of All Things can interact telepathically with beings around them, sensing and understanding their internal voices to become aware of their genuine emotions and thoughts. While the precise mechanics of this ability have never been explicitly clarified in One Piece, many fans find parallels to Observation Haki.
Though potentially accessible to anyone, only a few can master this type of Haki, which acts as a kind of sixth sense. Observation Haki users exhibit precognitive abilities and heightened sensitivity to their surroundings, perceiving the presence, power, and emotions of other living beings without needing to see them. Interestingly, the latest Vivre Card databook may have confirmed that the Voice of All Things could indeed be a form of Observation Haki.
Momonosuke’s profile in the recent One Piece databook seemingly links the Voice of All Things to Observation Haki
A rare, mysterious ability
In One Piece, individuals who can perceive the Voice of All Things possess an enhanced awareness of their environment, enabling them to interact with animals and even inanimate objects as if conversing with humans.
Also known as Kenbushoku, the Color of Observation allows users to sense the auras of others, which can be likened to a kind of “voice.”With Kenbushoku, it is possible to anticipate actions and intentions, as well as assess an individual’s emotional state and strength.
Much like the Voice of All Things, Observation Haki functions even when its targets are obscured from view. For instance, Admiral Fujitora can effectively engage in combat despite his blindness due to his superb control over Kenbushoku. This ability enables him to visualize the auras and feelings of others mentally, compensating for his lack of sight.
Members of the Three-Eyed Tribe can access the Voice of All Things using their inherent third eye, although they must undergo specific training to do so. Apart from them, only a limited number of characters in One Piece have been confirmed as users of the Voice of All Things.
Monkey D. Luffy was able to hear the Sea Kings and communicate with Zunesha. He also interacted with the Iron Giant Emet, which was inaudible to others. The legendary Joy Boy similarly communicated with Emet, hearing its voice and responding to it.
Gol D. Roger, the formidable Pirate King, frequently employed the Voice of All Things. He was able to perceive the voices of the Sea Kings and the voice of Big Mom’s Road Poneglyph, guiding his crew to Skypiea, and sensed the presence of Zunesha.
Kozuki Oden shared the ability to hear the Sea Kings and Zunesha like Roger. However, it remains unclear if Oden could respond to animals and objects. He passed this unique trait to his son, Momonosuke.
Despite his young age, Momonosuke displayed remarkable potential for the Voice of All Things. He not only felt Zunesha’s voice but effectively ordered the ancient elephant to attack Jack and his crew.
As the current incarnation of the Ancient Weapon Poseidon, Shirahoshi can summon Sea Kings. During Fish-Man Island Arc, she proved capable of conversing with Sea Kings perfectly, making it feel akin to using the Voice of All Things.
The One Piece Vivre Card databook hints at the truth
The Vivre Card databook, an encyclopedia-style resource that enhances the One Piece manga, is recognized as a reliable information source endorsed by Eiichiro Oda. A new release on September 4, 2024, included profiles of several characters, including Momonosuke.
According to his profile, Momonosuke was classified as an Observation Haki user. Yet, he has never demonstrated a traditional form of Kenbushoku. Even when he sensed Luffy’s condition during battles against Kaido and Big Mom, his insights were atypical for a Kenbushoku user. Notably, Yamato, a proficient Observation Haki user, did not perceive Luffy’s condition as accurately as Momonosuke did.
Furthermore, One Piece indicated a telepathic connection between Momonosuke and Luffy. Although Luffy is neither an animal nor an inanimate object, this link adds to the enigma surrounding Momonosuke’s extraordinary abilities.
Similarly, Shirahoshi was categorized as a Kenbushoku user without displaying the typical signs of the Color of Observation. Her mother, Queen Otohime, demonstrated significant Observation Haki skills, sensing the emotions of everyone on Fish-Man Island and deftly evading projectiles by foreseeing their trajectory.
However, Shirahoshi never exhibited such abilities in One Piece. Given that both Momonosuke and Shirahoshi are Voice of All Things users, the Vivre Card databook might be implying that this enigmatic skill is merely a variant of Observation Haki.
While there is no definitive confirmation, the Vivre Card databook is often inconsistent. However, considering their similarities, it would not be surprising if the Voice of All Things represents a unique, possibly innate form of Observation Haki.
Luffy, confirmed as a user of both the Voice of All Things and the Color of Observation, is noted to possess a gift for sensing the emotions of living organisms. Silvers Rayleigh characterized this talent as Observation Haki. It is plausible to consider the Voice of All Things as an extension of Observation Haki applicable to inanimate objects.
Voice of All Things, Breath of All Things, and Observation Haki
During his confrontation with Mr. 1 in the Arabasta Arc, Roronoa Zoro unconsciously utilized both Armament Haki and Observation Haki. Notably, in the latter instance, the green-haired swordsman exhibited an ability remarkably similar to the Voice of All Things.
Out of the blue, Zoro entered a state of heightened awareness that granted him precognitive and clairvoyant capabilities. This allowed him to dodge falling rocks by sensing them. As Zoro explicitly stated, he didn’t merely evade the rocks, but predicted their landing spots by feeling their “breath.”
Soon after, Zoro managed to locate and retrieve his sword, which was buried under debris, attributing this feat to his ability to sense the “breath”of inanimate objects, referring to one of his swords. He expressed that he could feel a distinct presence emanating from rocks, trees, and the ground around him.
Finally, Zoro struck Mr. 1, slicing through the steel-like body. This extraordinary ability to cut steel was facilitated by what is now recognized as a form of Armament Haki. However, prior to unleashing it, Zoro needed to use his so-called Breath of All Things to sense the “breath”of steel.
The precise nature of Zoro’s Breath of All Things has never been fully elaborated in One Piece. What’s understood is that Zoro achieved enhanced spatial awareness, allowing him to perceive situations far beyond standard sensory capabilities. While reminiscent of Observation Haki, it appears to surpass the usual Kenbushoku.
Ordinarily, Observation Haki is effective only on living beings with intent. Kenbushoku users shouldn’t predict where falling rocks will land since they are inanimate and lack intent. Enel used a fundamental form of Observation Haki to foresee and avoid Luffy’s attacks. However, Luffy circumvented Enel’s Kenbushoku by shutting down his perception.
When Luffy threw random punches without intention, Enel could not anticipate them, despite his efforts. This implies that the Breath of All Things is an advanced form of Observation Haki, similar to the Future Sight ability.
Both abilities transcend mere wishful thought, allowing users to envision a specific sequence of upcoming events. In the case of the Breath of All Things, this result emanates from elevated instincts enabling the user to grasp their surroundings thoroughly.
The Breath of All Things signifies a heightened awareness state, facilitating harmony with the environment. Its similarity to the Voice of All Things is apparent, highlighting its connection to Observation Haki.
With slightly varied applications, all three powers seek to provide insight into the surrounding world, encompassing people, living beings, and even objects. It’s likely that the Breath and Voice of All Things originate from the Color of Observation, representing distinctive forms of this Haki type.
