Obsession with Non-Traditional Love Story in The Atypical Family

While all attention is focused on Gwi-ju and Da-hae in Netflix’s The Atypical Family, fans can’t help but feel giddy with anticipation for the blossoming of another love story.

Gwi-ju’s daughter I-na is one of the many characters in the K-drama with a unique story to share. She is shy and introverted, causing her to struggle with making friends at school. However, her life takes a turn when she is coerced into joining an after-school club and catches the attention of Goh Hye-rim, a prominent member of the dance club.

However, the plot truly unfolds when the most popular boy in school, Han Jun-woo, starts developing feelings for her. Although I-na secretly harbors a crush on Jun-woo, she is too afraid to act on it.

The revelation of I-na’s powers in Episode 2 sparked a strong desire among fans to see her and Jun-woo together. This was further amplified when Jun-woo picked up her glasses from the floor and made direct eye contact with her.

If anyone looks directly at In-na, she has the ability to read their thoughts. She inadvertently hears Jun-woo refer to her as “beautiful.”

One fan on X/Twitter expressed their excitement about I-na’s ability to read minds and how hearing the person say she is pretty made them feel wild. They also couldn’t contain their love for the characters, exclaiming, “OH MY BABIES THEY’RE SO CUTE AND SO DEAR TO ME.”

Fans were captivated by the story of young love and were immediately hooked after this scene. The effect only intensified in Episode 6 when Jun-woo expressed his true feelings, leaving viewers even more enamored.

During a dance club outing at an amusement park, Hye-rim makes an effort to capture a photo with Jun-woo. However, noticing that I-na is by herself, Jun-woo takes her hand and joins in for the photo, pretending to be interested in Hye-rim, despite knowing that I-na also has feelings for him.

He even goes as far as buying her cotton candy and remaining silent. This clear gesture is made before Hye-rim asks I-na to join her in getting Jun-woo alone at the carousel. It is at this moment that Jun-woo asks I-na if she is aware of the truth and if his eyes betray his true feelings. He confesses to I-na that he has feelings for her.

One fan remarked, “Even this children’s story has me feeling butterflies in my stomach. Bok Gwi-joo, you’re being outdone by a little boy who has a crush on your daughter. You should make a move, man.”

Similarly, someone else exclaimed with excitement, “You can tell just by looking into my eyes that I have feelings for you!”Han Junwoo, you are such a boy, I couldn’t contain my excitement, he is amazing!”

One viewer expressed their admiration for the heartwarming confession, stating, “I was moved by how I-na took Jun-woo to the carousel at Hye-rim’s request, only to have Jun-woo end up confessing his feelings to I-na. This cute ship is definitely sailing.”

Despite The Atypical Family’s ongoing young love story, viewers can anticipate some obstacles. I-na remains unaware of Jun-woo’s confession being overheard by Hye-rim. It has become evident that Hye-rim has been taking advantage of I-na’s timid nature and desire for companionship.

The dilemma involves how I-na plans to deal with Jun-woo’s affections and the measures Hye-rim is willing to take in order to prevent it.

The Atypical Family is available for viewing on Netflix every Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, you can also browse through Netflix’s 2024 K-drama lineup and highly anticipated K-dramas.
