The Drunken Boar is a crucial NPC in Black Myth: Wukong, and completing its quest grants you the Wind Tamer, an item essential for simplifying the Yellow Wind Sage boss battle.
In Black Myth: Wukong, side quests can often be sneaky, with NPCs hidden in remote locations, offering valuable items that provide lore or assistance in boss confrontations.
One such NPC, the Drunken Boar, can be found in Yellow Wind Ridge. If you’re having difficulty with the Yellow Wind Sage boss fight, it’s imperative to complete the Drunken Boar quest. This quest rewards you with the Wind Tamer, which can greatly enhance your battle experience.
How to Complete the Drunken Boar Quest and Obtain the Wind Tamer
Here’s a brief overview of how to complete the Drunken Boar quest:
- Head to Rockrest Flat Shrine
- Interact with the Drunken Boar
- Collect the Arhat Gold Piece
- Acquire a Sobering Stone
- Return to the Drunken Boar
- Meet the Drunken Boar in Crouching Tiger Temple
- Defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire
- Enter the Kingdom of Sahali
- Battle Fuban
Now, let’s delve into each step in detail to guide you all the way to the Wind Tamer.
Step 1: Reach Rockrest Flat Shrine
Begin your journey by making your way to Rockrest Flat Shrine.
You can find this Shrine near the Stone Vanguard boss encounter in Black Myth: Wukong. Another route is to defeat the Flowing Sands Prince in the opening area and then navigate right through a wooden bridge.
Regardless of how you reach it, you’ll arrive at this Shrine, an essential part of the Yellow Wind Ridge.
Step 2: Meet the Drunken Boar
Now it’s time to meet the Drunken Boar in Black Myth: Wukong.
From Rockrest Flat Shrine, move to the opposite side of the rocks, where you’ll encounter an enemy with a shield guarding a wooden barricade. Defeat this enemy, break the barricade, and proceed, leading you into a vast open field with rocks scattered around.
Upon entering, you’ll find the Drunken Boar, who will request you to find something to help him sober up.
Step 3: Acquire the Arhat Gold Piece
You’ll need the Arhat Gold Piece as part of the quest. You can obtain this item by defeating a primary boss in the area, the First Prince of the Flowing Sands.
This boss is relatively straightforward, primarily charging at you. Simply side-dodge to avoid its attacks, and once defeated, it will drop the Arhat Gold Piece.
Step 4: Acquire a Sobering Stone
The Sobering Stone is another key item in Black Myth: Wukong.
You will need a Sobering Stone to help the Drunken Boar regain sobriety. To locate this item, teleport to Crouching Tiger Temple. Here, make sure to defeat the Tiger Vanguard if you haven’t done so yet—it can be quite a challenging boss encounter.
After defeating it, run straight to the Windrest Bridge Shrine. From here, continue straight to the end of the bridge, turn left, then right, and left again. You’ll find the Sobering Stone by breaking two small jars, as indicated in the above image.
Step 5: Return to the Drunken Boar
Once you have the Sobering Stone, head back to the Drunken Boar and deliver the item. Upon receiving it, the Boar will stand up and request some meat from the Crouching Tiger Temple. Just to clarify, there is no meat available, so there’s no need to waste time searching for it.
Instead, teleport to Crouching Tiger Temple and follow the subsequent steps outlined below.
Step 6: Talk to the Drunken Boar in Crouching Tiger Temple
Provide the Jade Lotus to the Drunken Boar.
After teleporting to Crouching Tiger Temple, ascend the stairs and take the second right. You’ll find the Drunken Boar seated there.
Engage in conversation with it, and the Boar will demand a Jade Lotus from you. You can purchase this item from any Shrine Shop for 90 Will. Once acquired, present it to the Boar, exhaust its dialogue, and return to the original spot where you first encountered the Drunken Boar.
Step 7: Defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire
Upon returning to the open field, turn right to find the irate Drunken Boar, upset about your possession of the Arhat Gold Piece.
A battle will commence, and you will need to defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire. This confrontation should be manageable, and once you overcome it, the Boar will yield and enter the door right behind it.
Step 8: Enter the Kingdom of Sahali
The Kingdom of Sahali is a secret area.
Upon entering through the door, you’ll find yourself in the Kingdom of Sahali. The Drunken Boar will share a story with you, and you will discover a new Shrine. Proceed forward, and another Tiger Vanguard will confront you.
Defeating this one is easier than the previous one. After overcoming it, continue and speak with the Yellow Wind Sage NPC.
Step 9: Defeat Fuban
The final quest step is to defeat Fuban.
After conversing with the Yellow Wind Sage, a gigantic beetle named Fuban will spawn in a desert arena. This boss isn’t particularly challenging, and the Yellow Wind Sage will provide some assistance.
Once you’ve defeated Fuban, you’ll be teleported back to the initial gate, and you’ll possess the Wind Tamer.
Now, you can utilize the Wind Tamer to tackle the Yellow Wind Sage boss version that may have been difficult for you until now.
What Does the Wind Tamer Do?
The Wind Tamer acts as a suppressor of Wind Attacks in Black Myth: Wukong. When facing the Yellow Wind Sage, it will launch many aggressive Wind attacks that can be difficult to counter.
The Wind Tamer cannot be spammed; it has a meter bar that fills up as you fight or rest at a Shrine. This meter bar is displayed next to the Spirit meter at the bottom right corner of your screen.
How to Use the Wind Tamer
Utilize Wind Tamer to suppress Wind attacks.
If you’re on default settings, activate the Wind Tamer by pressing T on your keyboard or by using R2 and moving the left stick upward on your PlayStation 5 controller. Once the Yellow Wind Sage begins its massive Wind Attacks, engage the Wind Tamer; the boss will curse you but lose all its teeth.
The effect is immediate, meaning there isn’t any delay between activating the Wind Tamer and the subduing of the boss. However, since it is temporary, ensure you deal as much damage as possible to recharge the Wind Tamer for subsequent use. If you time it right, you shouldn’t need a second charge.
