On Wednesday, June 11, 2024, @pewpiece (Pew), a well-known One Piece series leaker and former Twitter user, shared a message from the series’ creator, Eiichiro Oda. The message discussed the series’ recent appearance on the Las Vegas Sphere in Nevada, USA.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime, a brand new animation sequence produced by Toei Animation was launched on the Exosphere exterior starting on Sunday, June 10. This special sequence will continue to be displayed on the Exosphere exterior until Sunday, June 16, as stated in Oda’s message. It marks a significant milestone for the series, as it is the first time that any Japanese content has been broadcasted on the Sphere. This achievement adds yet another historical feat to Oda’s impressive record.
One Piece anime’s Sphere display features brand new animation sequence from Toei
The Sphere display is the most recent collaborative achievement for the franchise, but there have been other notable collaborations in recent months. One such collaboration was in December 2023, when the franchise teamed up with the NFL’s (National Football League) Los Angeles Rams for their home game against the Cleveland Browns.
In the upcoming months, fans of MLB (Major League Baseball) can expect to witness a collaboration between the franchise and the Boston Red Sox at their home game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Those who buy a ticket through a special promotion will be rewarded with a bobblehead of the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, wearing a Red Sox jersey. Furthermore, the MLB’s official website has announced that there will be a pregame celebration featuring music, a cosplay contest, and other exciting activities.
As previously stated, the Sphere display is dedicated to commemorating the 25th anniversary of the television anime series. This milestone is likely the driving force behind the other collaborations as well. Additionally, Toei Animation has released a special video titled “25 Years of One Piece”on their official YouTube channel to celebrate the anime’s 25th anniversary.
The video showcases notable scenes from every year the anime has been broadcasted, beginning in 1997 and concluding in 2024 with the current Egghead storyline. Along with the Sphere exhibit and this commemorative video, the franchise also launched an official English YouTube channel.
Oda’s manga was first published in July 1997 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, where it continues to be serialized to this day. The current storyline, known as the Final Saga, officially began with the Egghead arc and is still ongoing. It is expected that the Egghead arc will come to an end in the near future as of the time of writing this article.
The television anime adaptation of Toei Animation first debuted in October 1999 and is currently ongoing, including the Egghead arc. It has been announced that a remake of the series is in the works from Netflix and Wit Studios, but there is currently no further information available about the remake.
