Oh My Girl’s Seunghee Opens Up About Her Involvement in Korea Sings After 17 Years

On August 22nd, the members of Oh My Girl (Hyojung, Mimi, YooA, Seunghee, Yubin, Arin) gathered for an interview with TenAsia at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The purpose of the interview was to discuss their 10th mini-album, “Dreamy Resonance.”

Reflecting on her decade-long journey with Oh My Girl, Seunghee compared herself to a wildflower, having been abruptly thrust into the entertainment world. She went on to elaborate on how she found herself pursuing a career in the industry at a young age. During her appearance on MBC’s “Radio Star”, Seunghee had previously disclosed that she had been financially supporting her family since her debut. Now, she delved deeper into the unusual events that led her to become a singer.

Growing up, singing was never my passion, but my parents adored watching me sing and urged me to pursue a career as a singer. One day, they surprised me by secretly submitting an application for me to audition for ‘Korea Sings’. I was caught off guard when I was informed that I had to perform in the preliminary round, but little did I know, that was the start of my journey to where I am today.

Seunghee was moved by the growth of her fellow member Arin. She fondly recalled how she used to pack Arin’s lunch before she left for school in her uniform when they were living in the dorm together. However, as their success grew, Seunghee noticed that Arin was now confidently handing out drinks to company staff and even driving to Yongin on her own. Seunghee couldn’t help but think, “My dear friend has truly matured.”

Hyojung, one of the group’s members, revealed that her inspiration to pursue an idol career stemmed from singer Baek Ji-young, which caught the attention of many. She reminisced, “I was a big fan of senior Baek Ji-young and dreamed of becoming a ballad singer. I used to sing a lot of melancholic songs since elementary school, but then the K-pop trend took off. I started dancing along and noticed that I was just as good, if not better, than my classmates. That’s when I decided to shift my focus.”

In the meantime, Oh My Girl will be returning with a new release, marking their first comeback in over a year since their 9th mini-album “Golden Hourglass”was released in July of last year. Titled “Classified”, the lead single is a fusion of pop and dance elements with a classical music influence. This dreamy track serves as a heartfelt response to their previous song “My doll”and showcases their unwavering love for their devoted fans.

On August 26th at 6 PM, Oh My Girl will release their 10th mini-album “Dreamy Resonance”through various music sites.
