Old School RuneScape players mourn the loss of a popular Slayer monster after a major decrease in power

After only two weeks since their initial buff, one of the most powerful Slayer monsters in Old School RuneScape has already been nerfed, causing the community to mourn the loss of a previously effortless way to make money.

Jagex, the developer of OSRS, significantly improved the drop table of Fever Spiders on May 8, 2024. Prior to this update, the low-level Slayer creature had little value. However, after the buffs were implemented, defeating them became a highly profitable activity, particularly for Ironman players.

The recent buff to the Fever Spider drop table brought about the addition of numerous valuable items, including loot such as Rune Battleaxes, Rune Medium Helms, and Water Battlestaves that could be Alchemised for a significant amount of coins. By utilizing a Dwarf Cannon at optimal levels, players were able to achieve a profit of 2.5 million per hour, surpassing the earnings from certain high-level bosses like Corporeal Beast, K’ril Tsutsaroth, and The Nightmare.

Nonetheless, the drop table underwent significant changes on May 23, 2024. The Rune Medium Helms and Rune Battleaxes were downgraded to Adamant, and Water Battlestaves were substituted with Limpwurt Roots. As a result of this alteration, profits were drastically reduced by 72%. This means that players can now only earn a maximum profit of 700,000 per hour, significantly lower than before.

The removal of this money-making method has caused distress among Old School RuneScape players, as evidenced by a widely popular thread on Reddit titled “You Will Be Missed.”One of the top comments acknowledged the necessity of its removal for the sake of the game, but also expressed a sense of loss.

Some people believed that the drop table was not fairly balanced and were pleased when it was nerfed. They commented, “The new loot table was absurd to the point where I suspected someone at Jagex was creating content specifically for bots,”and, “It was extremely overpowered.”

With the recent nerf to Fever Spiders, OSRS players are once again turning to alternative AFK methods for making money. Some popular options include slaying Gargoyles or Zombie Pirates, as well as fishing for Infernal Eels.
