On Netflix, Avatar: The Last Airbender dethroned One Piece

It’s a battle at the top that has just taken place between two live-action adaptations of animation monuments, and Aang has won over Luffy.

Netflix has always had a weakness for projects adapting cult works into live action. Unfortunately, it has not always borne fruit, and the streaming giant has repeatedly failed on productions shunned by the public. Cowboy Bebop, Death Note and even Bleach had notably paid the price.

But these sacrifices finally seem to be paying off, allowing the platform to try the experiment again, this time succeeding in generating enthusiasm among subscribers. Netflix has not, however, lowered its ambitions: recently, it was a pillar of the anime world which was entitled to its facelift in real views, namely One Piece. The king of Japanese series was hot, but the business paid off, generating crazy audiences.

However, the reign seems to be over: because a newcomer has made the record soar on the streaming platform.

The Avatar is Stronger than the Pirate King on Netflix

In a press release, Netflix shared the news: in four days, Avatar: The Last Airbender has accumulated 21.2 million views.

The platform detailed: “After just four days, Avatar: The Last Airbender became an “immediate sensation.» With 21.2 million views, the program debuted at the top of the English-language series list and reached the top 10 in 92 countries.”

The live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon cartoon therefore beats that of One Piece, which had 18.5 million views for the same broadcast duration upon its release. Which still represents an increase in views of almost 15%!

In France, the series took off very quickly. Since day one, it has been in first place in the platform’s top 10, and the reception from the public, spectators and critics alike, has been quite good. In view of these first figures and the few clues left by the members of the cast, we can therefore say that things look good for a season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Netflix seems to have found the right formula for successful live-action adaptations. Which should also reassure fans for another project preparing to be released in April 2024, and based on the famous manga Parasyte.
