The official staff announced on Friday, June 28, 2024, that the production of Once Upon a Witch’s Death anime has been given the green light. The announcement also revealed that the anime is scheduled for release in 2025. In addition, the staff shared a teaser promotional video and visual to accompany the announcement.
Since September 2021, ASCII Media Works has been publishing the novels.
Along with the anime, the light novels have also served as inspiration for a manga series, featuring illustrations by Kenu Amearare.
Teaser Trailer Confirms 2025 Premiere for Once Upon a Witch’s Death Anime
On Friday, June 28, 2024, Kadokawa streamed a promotional video announcing the adaptation of the Once Upon a Witch’s Death anime, which is based on Saka’s witch fantasy light novel series. The series is set to be released in 2025, although a specific release date has not yet been disclosed.
The promotional video highlights Meg and Faust, the main characters of the Once Upon a Witch’s Death anime. This brief preview delves into the show’s plot, unveiling Meg’s journey to collect tears of joy and grow the tree of life in order to break a curse and save herself from death.
It is worth noting that a new website and X (previously known as Twitter) handle have been launched for the anime, in order to share the PV with fans. In addition to the teaser trailer, the official staff have also revealed a key visual.
The vivid artwork showcases Meg, the witch apprentice, and her mentor, Faust, also known as the Eternal Witch. Additionally, Saka, the original author of the light novels, has expressed their sincere appreciation to all those who have supported them.
In addition, the author has requested that fans anticipate the upcoming series. Alongside Saka, the artist responsible for the manga adaptation, Kenu Amearare, has created a special illustration featuring Meg Raspberry in celebration of the announcement of the anime adaptation.
Once Upon a Witch’s Death Anime Cast and Staff
The Once Upon a Witch’s Death anime has also announced its main cast and staff. Meg Raspberry, the witch apprentice, is played by Yoshino Ayoama, and Faust, the Eternal Witch, is voiced by Yoshiko Sakakibara.
The character voices are showcased in the promotional video, with comments from the voice actors being shared on both the anime’s website and X handle. The voice actors expressed their enthusiasm for being a part of the series.
At EMT Squared, Atsushi Nigorikawa leads the staff as director, while Keiichiro Ochi oversees the scripts. Yuki Shizuku has recently joined the team as the character designer and is responsible for adapting Chorefuji’s original character designs into animated form.
About the Anime
The fantasy anime, adapted from Saka’s light novels, focuses on Meg Raspberry, a young witch in training who discovers she only has one year left to live. Her master, Faust, the Eternal Witch, reveals that the only way to break the curse is by gathering tears of joy and nurturing the seed of life.
To fulfill this task, Meg must step out of her comfort zone and embark on an adventure, a completely new experience for her. Throughout the anime, Meg’s journey will be documented as she gains valuable insights and life lessons.
