Viewers were excited to see a variety of cool cameos from Captain America, Spider-Man, and Doctor Doom in X-Men ’97. This led many to speculate that their favorite Marvel character could potentially make an appearance in a future episode.
Despite some fans demanding their inclusion, series creator Beau DeMayo has revealed that there was one character the series couldn’t touch.
In response to DeMayo’s request for viewers to watch a specific episode of X-Men: The Animated Series before the season finale, a fan inquired, “Where is Deadpool?”DeMayo then clarified, “Unfortunately, he was not allowed to be included.”
Despite being a close friend of Wolverine and occasionally a member of the team in the comics, many fans were left feeling the absence of Deadpool from the show. It has now been revealed that his intentional nonappearance was a deliberate choice.
Despite not providing any explanation, DeMayo’s decision to exclude Deadpool from X-Men ’97 is likely due to Marvel Studios’ plans to properly introduce him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.
It is plausible that the TV-14 animated series could have deemed Deadpool too mature, as his appearances often include explicit language and risqué humor.
However, it wasn’t just Deadpool who was excluded from the show. Another fan was curious about Sabertooth, a fellow member of the Weapon X super-soldier program that Wolverine was a part of.
DeMayo responded to the question by stating, “I regret that we were only able to cover a limited number of mutants in our ten episodes. In my mind, Sabertooth is currently keeping a low profile and taking advantage of the X-Men’s preoccupation to capitalize on the events that occurred in Genosha.”
With the confirmation of Season 2 for X-Men ’97, there is a possibility of seeing numerous beloved characters being introduced into the storyline.
