According to a recently released report, Kevin Costner’s film that is often overlooked is currently being adapted into a television series featuring Chris Pratt. However, contrary to popular belief, the show will not have a Western theme.
Despite being known as the king of cowboy hats in the modern era, Kevin Costner’s diverse filmography goes beyond just horse wrangling and gun slinging. He has also starred in romantic films and political dramas, but one of his most notable and beloved movies is Field of Dreams.
In 1989, the sports movie was released featuring Costner as Ray Kinsella, a farmer who uncovers that his simple cornfield draws the spirits of deceased baseball icons. Despite skepticism from others, he proceeds to construct a baseball field for them to play on.
Despite its status as a forgotten gem, Field of Dreams, with its bigger projects and Western reputation, has not been overlooked by Hollywood. In fact, there were rumors of a potential reboot in the form of a TV show starring Chris Pratt.
According to a report by Puck, Peacock was working on a Field of Dreams show, with Michael Schur, the creator of The Good Place and Parks and Recreation, leading the development.
Additionally, Pratt was set to lead the cast of the show, which was said to have an impressive $15 million budget per episode. (To put it into perspective, this is reportedly the same budget per episode as The Mandalorian.)
Pratt’s involvement in a baseball-themed project would not be unprecedented. In 2011, he portrayed Scott Hatteberg in Moneyball, a drama centered around the true story of the Oakland Athletics team.
Despite the initial excitement surrounding Field of Dreams, the project faced setbacks when both Puck and Pratt departed, leaving Peacock without capable replacements. With a significant financial investment and the loss of a key star, the streaming service ultimately decided not to take any risks.
It was a possibility for Field of Dreams to become a major success on the platform, especially considering the fact that The Good Place’s Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper, Parks and Recreation’s Nick Offerman, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andre Braugher were all scheduled to join.
The original Field of Dreams movie was a tremendous success, receiving critical acclaim and earning three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. It has since become a beloved fixture in the sports genre.
