One of MTG’s deadliest Assassin cards triples in price

With the release of MTG Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed, Magic: The Gathering has successfully rejuvenated the Assassin Creature type. As a result, popular Assassin Creatures such as Virtus the Veiled have experienced a significant increase in value.

The releases of Magic in 2024 have greatly contributed to raising the profile of Assassin Creatures. The introduction of Etrata, Deadly Fugitive as a new Commander in the Murders at Karlov Manor expansion has been highly praised.

The inclusion of the archetype in the Outlaw group by Outlaws of Thunder Junction provided significant support and paved the way for more reliable support in upcoming sets.

Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed provides even more support than what dedicated fans of the Creature type could have imagined. It features an extensive range of new Assassin cards inspired by beloved characters from Ubisoft’s renowned franchise.

Several cards from Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed have experienced a surge in value since the set was released, while the prices of numerous Assassins from outside the set are also increasing.

Virtus the Veiled, a popular Assassin card in MTG, has recently experienced a significant increase in price, more than tripling since the beginning of July. Previously valued at $6, the card now holds a market price of $20.24 on TCGplayer.

Despite its relatively high casting cost of 2B for a 1/1 Creature, this Assassin Creature, known as Virtus, justifies its value in both monetary and mana terms due to its powerful combination of abilities.

One of Virtus’s abilities is Deathtouch, which makes any damage it inflicts on an opponent’s Creature fatal. Choosing to block a Creature with Deathtouch is a dangerous decision, but if you choose not to block Virtus and it successfully deals damage, the targeted player will lose half of their life total, rounded up.

The release of Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed has made it possible for players to create highly risky Assassin combinations, with Virtus being the most recent addition to popular Assassin decks.

Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad is able to effectively utilize this card, eliminating the disadvantage of Virtus’ weak statistics and vulnerability by repeatedly resurrecting the card and using it against opponents without hesitation.
