One of the Coldest Walks in Anime – Fan’s can’t believe how Ufotable elevated Muzan’s entry in Demon Slayer Hashira arc

On June 23, 2024, the eighth episode of the Demon Slayer Hashira arc was released. This episode primarily delved into Gyomei’s past and the event that drove him to enlist in the Demon Slayer Corps. However, it was the ending that garnered the most attention, with many praising it as one of the most brilliantly animated scenes in the series. The ending featured Muzan’s effortless infiltration of the Ubuyashiki residence.

The anime adaptation took this brief scene, which was only two panels in the manga, and elevated it to a whole new level by incorporating extra angles and completely original sequences created specifically for the anime.

This article includes spoilers for the Demon Slayer Hashira arc.

Demon Slayer Hashira arc anime finally adapts Muzan’s Meeting with Ubuyashiki

Despite Muzan’s defeat, the Demon Slayer manga series concluded its serialization in 2020. While the manga effectively portrayed Muzan’s ruthless character and calculated demeanor, some fans believed that there was room for improvement.

Despite receiving complaints from fans about the anime’s adherence to the manga in the recent episodes of the Demon Slayer Hashira arc, the latest episode, which closely followed chapter 136 of the manga, has become the highlight of the series.

Just like in the anime, chapter 136 of the manga also depicts Muzan arriving at the Ubuyashiki residence to directly confront Ubuyashiki. However, in the manga, this scene is condensed to just two panels, showing Muzan standing before Ubuyashiki’s porch. In contrast, the anime extends the scene for a full minute, incorporating various anime-original angles and an exhilarating background music to enhance the impact of the antagonist’s entrance.

Fan Response to the Extended Scene

Despite few fans expressing that there was no justification for Ufotable to enhance Muzan’s entrance to such an extent, they also acknowledged that the scene effectively elevated his overall image and the surrounding atmosphere. In addition, the perfectly timed ending song only added to the impact, solidifying it as one of the most impressive anime-original moments in the series.

A different fan also seized the chance to highlight how this prolonged scene effectively sets the stage for the upcoming Final Battle arc. This highly anticipated arc will showcase Muzan’s formidable strength and explain why even the most powerful demons cower before him.

“The Beginning of The End,”one fan shared.

“It gave the exact feeling of how deep and heavy the next arc is going to be,”one fan said.

“Why do they keep going beyond my expectations,”another fan added.

Conversely, a few fans also used this chance to express their opinion that Muzan’s entry scene was excessive and unnecessary, as it was stretched out for several minutes despite being a relatively simple scene. While the majority of the fandom praised the scene for its impressive animation, there are still some who believe that the extra effort could have been allocated elsewhere.

“Liked the scene but i found that 4+minute of muzan walking is too much,”another fan said.

“Why was like half the episode just him walking in bruh I’m sobbing,”shared one fan.

Several other fans also noted that Muzan’s entry scene is a prime example of how an antagonist should be introduced before the final arc of a series. This is particularly noteworthy in the case of Demon Slayer, as Muzan had not been given any significant screen time before the Demon Slayer Hashira Arc in episode 7.

“This is how you introduce the main antagonist for one of the last arc of the anime,”one fan wrote.

“Fr fr I literally teared up as well. Peakest anime walk ever,”one X user shared.
