One of the most divisive sitcoms of all time is coming to Netflix

Netflix is continuing its trend of reviving popular sitcoms, with How I Met Your Mother being the latest addition to its lineup. From Friends to Seinfeld, the streaming platform is once again bringing back a beloved show that has a strong following.

Initially broadcasted on CBS in 2005, How I Met Your Mother concluded its nine-season run in 2015. Recently, Netflix announced that all seasons will be available for streaming again on June 3, 2024.

The plot of the show centered on Ted Mosby and his friends residing in New York City. The entire sitcom was presented as a story told by Ted in 2030 to his two children, recounting the series of events that ultimately brought him to his future wife. Among the group of friends were committed couple Lilly and Marshall, charming bachelor Barney, and Canadian journalist Robin.

As the seasons progressed, viewers were able to witness the development of each character’s storyline and the enigma surrounding Ted’s future spouse. Hints were scattered throughout the show, leaving fans to speculate whether it was Robin or another character. However, in the finale of 2015, all the puzzle pieces fell into place, finally unveiling her true identity.

The return of How I Met Your Mother has fans buzzing, with one person expressing their excitement on Twitter, “That’s going to be legendary – dairy.”This is a clever play on one of Barney’s famous catchphrases used in the show.

Another person commented, “Oh, how sweet! It’s time to binge watch! I completely forgot how many laughs each episode of the show had.”

One fan expressed their excitement, stating that they loved the show despite it not aging well. They also noted that it served as an interesting time stamp for the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Despite its few hiccups, namely its divisive finale, How I Met Your Mother encountered similar criticism to Seinfeld. Fans felt that the finale undid many of the storylines that had been developing over numerous episodes. Without giving away any spoilers, the reveal of Ted’s children’s mother resulted in a full-circle moment that pleased some fans but left others dissatisfied.

Some of the jokes in the show are controversial and would not be considered acceptable in today’s society, unless you were a fan who watched the show during its original run in the 2000s. These include jokes that are homophobic, Barney’s questionable actions to seduce women, and a few instances of slut-shaming.

Netflix will bring back How I Met Your Mother, so you can stream the TV series and discover new ones to watch.
