After the release of compilation volume 110 from the acclaimed mangaka Eiichiro Oda for the popular series One Piece, fans eagerly anticipated the translation of the volume’s SBS question corner. Among the valuable insights shared, a particularly striking revelation involved Admiral Kizaru and his actions during the Egghead Arc.
Notably, it was confirmed that Admiral Kizaru played a crucial role in providing food to Luffy while Saint Jaygarcia Saturn was holding him and the other Straw Hat members captive. While this act might seem trivial at first, it notably served as a catalyst in the arc, empowering Luffy to begin his counterattack against the Marine forces. This action might also hint at Kizaru’s deeper allegiance and future role within the narrative of One Piece.
Kizaru’s Possible Betrayal of the Marines for the Revolutionary Army
Dr. Vegapunk captured much of the focus within the Egghead Arc, yet several other significant characters were also prominently featured. This includes Admiral Kizaru, Bartholomew Kuma, and his daughter, Jewelry Bonney. Interestingly, all these characters made their first appearance together during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc.
During the Sabaody Archipelago Arc, Kizaru’s reunion with Kuma took place as Kuma’s transformation into a Pacifista was nearing completion. Just as Kizaru struggled to comply with the Marines’ and World Government’s directives regarding Dr. Vegapunk, he might also have similar reservations concerning the fate of Kuma.
It’s plausible that Kizaru’s distress over killing Dr. Vegapunk stemmed from his prior knowledge of Kuma’s fate. While he could cope with Kuma’s status as a Pacifista, taking Dr. Vegapunk’s life was a command that he found difficult to disconnect from his emotions. It’s even conceivable that the prospect of having to eliminate both Bonney and Dr. Vegapunk significantly impacted his mental state.
Moreover, Kizaru’s assistance to Luffy, by providing him food, is likely driven by two primary motives: firstly, to enhance the survival chances of Luffy’s comrades, and secondly, as a silent rebellion against the World Government. This second motivation is plausible, as Kizaru can utilize his Glint-Glint Fruit powers discreetly, without raising suspicion among his peers.
A potential third reason for Kizaru’s help could involve seeking favor with Monkey D. Dragon, the head of the Revolutionary Army. This idea aligns with Kizaru potentially being aware of the group’s impending action against Mariejois, suggesting he benefits from actively opposing the oppressive regime he serves.
Additionally, the possibility of Kizaru leaving the Marines to join the Revolutionary Army might be further validated when considering the example of Kuzan, another former Admiral who switched sides. However, given Oda’s tendency to introduce unexpected twists and Kizaru’s personal connections, it seems more likely that he would align with the Revolutionary Army rather than turn to a life of piracy.
Concluding Remarks
Of course, the above analysis is largely speculative, barring the confirmed detail that Kizaru provided Luffy with food during the Egghead Arc. However, when assessing Kizaru’s actions within the arc and his personal connections, it appears plausible that this could mark the beginning of his transformation into a member of the Revolutionary Army.
