According to reports, One Piece animator Vincent Chansard will be taking a temporary hiatus from the studio, but he is expected to return for one of the manga’s most highly-anticipated battles.
In November 2023, just prior to the start of the Final Saga of One Piece, it was announced that Chansard would be joining Toei Animation Studio for a complete year.
The acclaimed animator had previously been employed by MAPPA for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17, specifically for Episode 1109 which showcased the intense battle between Zoro and S-Hawk.
The visual quality of One Piece’s Wano and Final Saga has greatly improved.
He is expected to return to the team just in time for one of the most highly anticipated battles of the Final Saga, Luffy vs Kizaru.
Vincent Chansard announced that he’s taking a break from One Piece after expressing frustration over his action storyboard being heavily modified, almost to the point of erasure. The One Piece leaker reported that Vincent Chansard has decided to take a hiatus from working on One Piece due to feeling frustrated with the extensive changes made to his action storyboard. However, he plans to come back for the highly anticipated Luffy vs. Kizaru fight and in the meantime, he will be focusing on other projects.
This is the second time a beloved animator has departed from the One Piece team, much to the dismay of fans. In July 2024, Henry Thurlow (director of the highly acclaimed Law and Kid vs. Big Mom episode) also bid farewell to Toei Studio.
A disgruntled fan expressed their frustration, stating that both Henry and Vincent had been involved in fights but were being treated unfairly. They described the situation as “dogsh*t.”
“According to another source, Vincent had eagerly anticipated an upcoming fight, possibly between Garp and Aokiji, and had been discussing it for months. He had numerous ideas he wanted to incorporate, but unfortunately, most of them were rejected by someone at Toei. It is unclear who made the decision, but it was not the director.”
One individual also commented, “Toei can be confusing at times. Just when it seemed like things were improving, we lost Henry and now Vincent (for a temporary period).”
