It’s official: Netflix has seized on the One Piece phenomenon and has proposed numerous projects around the popular work. Among them, the streaming giant has decided to broadcast the anime… and fans are not taking the news so well.
If Luffy has still not become the king of pirates, he has certainly won the throne of the most popular manga and anime in recent years. It’s indisputable, Mugiwara reigns supreme, hitting the podiums one after the other, whether it’s his animated series as old as time or his manga tirelessly written and drawn by its author Eiichiro Oda.
And for some time now, One Piece has embarked on a new adventure, on the Netflix side. The opportunity for the Straw Hat crew to explore new horizons, such as a live-action series, and soon downright a remake of the anime, under the direction of studio Wit (Attack on Titan).
Building on its success, Netflix then made an announcement that took everyone by surprise: from now on, the main anime will be also broadcast on the streaming giant. A decision involving many countries and which will not have failed to make the rounds on social networks. Because the platform will indeed broadcast the iconic episodes… starting with the end.
Netflix’s decision creates discontent among One Piece fans
Indeed, Netflix will broadcast the iconic animated series One Piece, but this decision only concerns the brand new arc. As of today, the thousand episodes preceding Egghead’s story are not expected to appear on the streaming platform.
What can be a problem for new viewers, or those who haven’t been informed: in certain countries, One Piece is available from the beginning until the Sabaody arc, before ignoring some 500 episodes until the Egghead arc. In France, it’s worse: One Piece will officially begin on Netflix with the Egghead arc, at episode 1089.
If the announcement was already enough to worry anime aficionados, fearing that new spectators would not understand anything about the story and find themselves disgusted, there was nevertheless the possibility of rediscovering this new arc highly anticipated on the streaming giant’s website. But there too, there is a bone: because if Netflix is indeed going to broadcast the new Egghead arc, it will do so… with a week’s delay.
Shameful Netflix you say you broadcast episodes of One Piece when it’s not even unpublished here we are at episode 1090 and suggest to you that episode 1089 people will not want to hang on if it’s is a shifted week pic.twitter.com/EjR7Twl00U

I hope it’s for the launch because currently the 1090 is still not present, having a week’s delay compared to Crunchyroll is not worth it

netflix ruined the pace of release (and the hype that comes with it) of JOJO Stone Ocean and now they are also ruining One Piece. These are really antagonists to ruin the release of episodes of my favorite anime < a i=1>pic.twitter.com/l1OrH1OeVo

However, for an anime so followed and commented on on social networks, the fact of having to wait a week compared to the rest of the world (or Crunchyroll subscribers) seems inconceivable. Between inevitable spoilers on the Internet and the feeling of being left behind, the most dedicated spectators have difficulty swallowing the pill. What they made clear on social networks. Fortunately for the streaming giant, some say they are just happy to find Luffy on the platform.
With the Egghead arc, One Piece is moving ever deeper into its final saga. The episodes are available on Crunchyroll in simulcast, and on Netflix in streaming.
