The heartwarming bond between Joyboy and Emeth was further elucidated in One Piece Chapter 1122, much to the delight of fans.
One Piece is filled with amazing friendships, but there is one that stands out from centuries past. In the Egghead Arc, we are introduced to Emeth, a massive robot from the Void Century whose name is eventually revealed.
Even though Emeth had been in a deep slumber for hundreds of years, it finally awakens upon sensing the Drums of Liberation inside Luffy. The beat is reminiscent of Joyboy’s heart rhythm, and even in its centuries-long sleep, the robot can sense its friend’s presence.
Following this, Emeth assumes the responsibility of safeguarding Luffy and his comrades from the Gorosei. Despite being aware of Joyboy’s demise and Luffy’s distinct identity, Emeth recognizes the bond it shares with the pirate and is determined to defend him at any cost.
In One Piece Chapter 1122, Emeth uses its ultimate technique to rescue Luffy from the villains. This technique is the Conqueror Haki which had been sealed inside the Joyboy for centuries. The Haki is incredibly powerful, forcing the Gorosei to revert to their human forms and flee.

This enables the Straw Hat Pirates and their companions to depart from the island, leaving the robot behind. As Emeth watches Luffy’s departure, it recalls its dear friend from the past.
The robot’s memories show it with Joyboy, though only his silhouette is visible, before the legendary character sealed his Haki inside the robot. Joyboy explained that he was sealing the Haki to protect Emeth after his death.
Joyboy had warned, “There will come a time when you or someone you care for will face mortal danger. In that moment… release the knot by channeling your Conqueror Haki into Emeth.”
Emeth’s interpretation of the protection provided by its friend was truly heartwarming. It saw it not only as a means of safety, but also as a constant reminder of its friend’s presence. Emeth joyfully exclaimed, “Hehe… That makes me so happy! Thank you! Now even if you’re gone, it’ll be as if you’re still by my side!”
At the conclusion of One Piece Chapter 1122, following the release of Haki and the departure of Luffy and his comrades, Emeth is depicted as preparing to rest once more. As it drifts off, the robot’s final thought is: “I hope I do not feel isolated…”
It’s heartbreaking to see Emeth without Joyboy’s Haki, as it was a source of great comfort for the creature. Despite being separated from its friend, perhaps Emeth will have the chance to encounter Luffy in the future and form a new friendship with him.
