The second installment of the fourth One Piece Vivre card folder was launched in Japan on September 4, 2024. The two volumes, entitled “Breakthrough! Pioneers of the New Genesis!!”and “Threatening! The Strong of the ‘New World’!!”, feature Shanks and Mononosuke on their covers and contain information on numerous characters.
Among the many characters in Wano, there was one that may have slipped from memory: Guernika. His true name, Nika, was finally disclosed, linking him to another character. Furthermore, it was disclosed that he had passed away during the final battle between Luffy and Kaido in Wano, an interruption that occurred due to his advanced age.

One Piece: Discovering the Fate of Guernika
The most recent Vivre card featured Guernika, the masked agent of Cipher-Pol 0, and revealed various details about the character. These included their birthday on October 25, 2024, their height of 243 cm, their origins in West Blue, their favorite food being garlic, and their proficiency in using Observation and Armament Haki as a member of CP-0.
Despite this, the character’s card was defined by his age. It was revealed that Guernika had passed away at the age of 42, having been killed by Kaidou during the final battle of the Wano arc when he intervened in the clash between the two Conquerors.
The Real Pronunciation and Connection with Nika
Prior to the release of the most recent One Piece Vivre card, the name of this CP0 agent was believed to be pronounced as Guernina. Some fans theorized that this name could be linked to Pablo Picasso’s renowned artwork, also titled Guernika. However, the latest Vivre card has revealed that the correct pronunciation of his name is Guernika.
The true pronunciation of the name is closely linked to Luffy’s devil fruit, the Human-Human devil fruit, Model: Nika (Guer-nika). Despite this connection, as he has already been confirmed deceased, his role in the series is not significant. If the correct pronunciation had been known prior to Luffy’s Gear 5, the highly anticipated transformation may have been easier to predict and not caused such a stir on the internet.
Guernika, The Masked Man of CP0
Guernika first appeared in the Dressrosa arc of One Piece as a member of CP0, the most formidable division of Cipher-Pol. It was during his mission to Wano Kingdom, along with other agents, to negotiate a new supply of weapons that his true purpose was uncovered. However, their stay in Wano was prolonged by Orochi’s unreasonable requests, and they ultimately bore witness to the Raid of Onigashima.
Shortly after, Rob Lucci issued orders for the capture of Nico Robin. The agents wasted no time and were immediately sent out to search for the survivor of the Ohara Incident. As predicted, the agents were confronted by the Pirate-Samurai alliance and unfortunately, Maha was sacrificed. Despite this setback, Guernika persevered and continued to make progress.
He finally arrived at the spot where Luffy and Kaidou were preparing to deliver their ultimate attacks. Guernika intervened by using Tekkai to block Kaidou’s strike, which landed directly on Luffy at close range.
Despite knowing the consequences, Guernika accepted his fate and remained determined to interfere with Kaidou’s battle. As expected, Kaidou flew into a rage and fatally wounded Guernika with a swing of his weapon. In his final moments, Guernika bore witness to Luffy’s awakened devil fruit form and made sure to send a picture of it to the World Government.
