Eiichiro Oda may have been waiting for close to two decades to finally reveal Joyboy’s origins in One Piece.
The Egghead Arc is the current story arc in the One Piece manga, where Vegapunk’s shocking message was recently revealed. It serves as the first arc of the Final Saga and has consistently provided crucial pieces of lore. Joyboy, who was first mentioned in the Fish-Man Island Arc, remains a mysterious figure, but more information about him has been uncovered in this arc. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
During his broadcast, Vegapunk promises to reveal the truth about the world. He begins by disclosing that the world is headed towards destruction in the future. This statement is supported by the event where Mother Flame destroyed the Lulusia Kingdom, causing the sea level to rise by one meter.
The brilliant scientist also discloses that his knowledge of the Void Century is not exhaustive. He goes into detail about the origins of Nika and Joyboy. Nika, the renowned Warrior of Liberation, hails from Elbaf, the kingdom of Giants.
At the same time, the initial Joyboy was a youthful man hailing from the ancient kingdom. He possessed the ability to elongate his body similar to Nika. Furthermore, Joyboy held the distinction of being the very first pirate in recorded history. While Oda has recently disclosed Joyboy’s roots, his identity remains a mystery.
According to an interview from 2007, Oda expressed his thoughts on drawing a pirate with an eyepatch. He revealed that this character would appear in the final phase of One Piece and that he was eager to draw them. While many people may think that pirates often wear eye patches, Oda clarified that he had never drawn a pirate with one before.
With Oda’s recent revelation that Joyboy was a pirate, it is possible that he may also have an eye patch. Joyboy plays a significant role in the Final Saga, as mentioned by Oda, and his importance continues to grow. However, nothing is definitive yet as Oda has yet to unveil Rocks’ face. Therefore, further confirmation is needed before we can be certain.
The One Piece manga has once again gone on hiatus following the release of Chapter 1114.
