One Piece: Does the Egghead Arc end with chapter 1122? Explained

The initial installment of One Piece’s highly-anticipated ultimate saga, the Egghead Arc, commenced two years ago and may now be drawing to a close. When the Straw Hat Pirates arrived on the technologically advanced island of Dr. Vegapunk, they found themselves embroiled in the World Government’s plot to eliminate the scientist.

As the situation intensified, Admiral Kizaru ultimately took the life of Vegapunk, causing a pre-recorded message to be broadcasted. The Five Elders quickly arrived on Egghead in fear that Vegapunk may disclose the forbidden truths of the One Piece world to the public, and took measures to halt the broadcast.

Despite Egghead becoming a chaotic battleground, numerous significant events were taking place across the globe. The current arc has been the focal point of the One Piece manga since chapter 1058, but the initial leaks for chapter 1122 suggest that the Straw Hats will soon depart from Egghead.

Please note: The following article contains significant spoilers from One Piece manga Chapter 1122 and earlier.

Possible Spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1122: The End of Egghead in the Manga

The First Leaks of One Piece Chapter 1122

One Piece Chapter 1122 is scheduled to be released on Monday, August 5, 2024, on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus website and app. According to early leaks, the chapter is expected to showcase significant events that will potentially conclude the Egghead Arc.

According to the leaked spoilers, Emet uses a powerful Haki technique to confront and attack the Five Elders. It has been revealed that Joy Boy had previously sealed some of his Haki within Emet, and now the Iron Giant unleashes it upon the highest members of the World Government.

Anticipating the chapter’s images for further precision, it is evident that Joy Boy possesses the most formidable Haki ever witnessed in One Piece thus far, surpassing all other users of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki.

This was possible due to Joy Boy’s Haki, as Emet was able to generate a strong enough force to remove the Five Elders, effectively erasing their summoning and returning them to Mary Geoise.

As of the time this article was written, it remains unclear whether the Five Elders retreated to Mary Geoise by choice or were forcefully blown back there. However, both scenarios can be attributed to the immense power of Joy Boy’s Haki.

It is certain that the spoilers explicitly state that all the Elders, except for Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, have returned to the Pangaea Castle. Despite his colleagues’ presence, the treacherous Warrior God of Science and Defense, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, chose to stay at Egghead.

As the Thousand Sunny safely landed in the waters surrounding the island, it became possible for the Straw Hat Pirates, Dorry, Brogy, and the other Giants to set sail for Elbaf.

Is this the end of the Egghead Arc?

One Piece has already hinted that the Straw Hat Pirates will be heading to Elbaf next, following their visit to Egghead. This idea was confirmed by One Piece author Eiichiro Oda in a message sent to the Jump Festa 2024.

Upon fleeing from Vegapunk’s place, Luffy and his companions will finally embark on their journey to the homeland of the Giants. The most recent chapter hints that this highly anticipated event will happen sooner rather than later.

The Straw Hat crew’s objective in Egghead was never to participate in a large-scale battle with the Five Elders, as they were aware of their immense strength and ability to rapidly heal. Instead, Luffy and his comrades focused on ensuring the safety of Egghead and successfully bringing Dr. Vegapunk and his satellite bodies along with them.

Despite Vegapunk’s death during the attempted escape, the urgency to leave the island remains. The Giant Warrior Pirates have arrived in Egghead to escort the Straw Hats to Elbaf, and it appears that Vegapunk’s message has come to an end. For the Straw Hat Pirates, every moment spent on Egghead is considered a waste of time.

As One Piece chapter 1122 introduces new developments, it becomes evident that the Egghead Arc is reaching its conclusion. With Rob Lucci’s incapacitation and Kizaru’s emotional turmoil, along with the disappearance of most of the Five Elders, it appears that the Straw Hats have no remaining obstacles in their path.

There is only one Saint Saturn, but he alone does not appear to be sufficient in defeating Luffy and his companions. It is highly probable that the Egghead Arc will only need to address the challenges posed by Saturn and the treacherous Vegapunk York, as well as resolve the fates of various characters like Stussy, Kaku, and the Seraphim cyborgs.

It is likely that Bonney and Kuma will join the Straw Hats on their journey to Elbaf. This also holds true for Lilith, the sole survivor of Vegapunk’s group of six satellite bodies. Although Egghead’s demise appears to be on the horizon, it may not be as imminent as it seems.

After taking into account the subplots that need to be resolved, it is evident that the Straw Hats will remain with Egghead for at least a few more chapters. It is worth mentioning that the highly anticipated twist, hyped by One Piece editor Kaito Anayama, has yet to occur.

Anayama stated the following statement recently:

“It’s been stated that Egghead would conclude with a major incident. However, there is still one more big twist to it. I won’t say anything else or they’ll erase me…”

Since Saturn has remained on Egghead, Anayama’s mentioned event could possibly be the complete defeat of the former. Undoubtedly, the ultimate downfall of one of the Five Elders would be a shocking event that would reverberate throughout the world. From a narrative standpoint, Saturn must face consequences for his actions towards Bonney, Kuma, and Ginny and ultimately be defeated.

It is worth noting that Catarina Devon, a member of the Blackbeard Pirates, has the ability to mimic Saturn’s physical appearance through her Devil Fruit powers. Considering Saturn’s eventual downfall, this could potentially lead to various interesting situations, as Devon would have the ability to impersonate the Elder.

Regardless of the cliffhanger that Anayama hinted at, the Egghead Arc is essentially coming to an end. Its conclusion is expected to occur within the next couple of months, which aligns with the anticipated release of the Elbaf Arc in November 2024 at the latest.

On the very same day, it has been announced that Shonen Jump will release Elbaf-inspired figurines featuring the Straw Hat Pirates. This further solidifies the speculation that the Egghead Arc will conclude sometime in late summer or early autumn, followed by the Elbaf Arc commencing around the same period.
