Renowned One Piece translator Sandman reveals, “Despite his intimidating appearance, the ancient robot speaks in a childlike manner in the Japanese chapter. One wonders, what was his relationship with Joy Boy like?”
Upon being questioned about the similarity of the Iron Giant’s speech pattern to that of Going Merry, the translator confirms, “You’ve made a keen observation. Like Going Merry, the ancient robot also spoke in a childish manner, though it was more proficient in speaking Japanese.”
When questioned about whether other characters share the same manner of speaking as Iron Giant, he elaborates by stating, “The speech pattern of the ancient robot sounds even more youthful than that of Usopp’s three companions in the Japanese chapter.”
