One Piece Episode 1118: The Reason Behind Mjosgard’s Assistance to Sai and Leo Explained

Continuing from the previous episode, One Piece episode 1118 focuses on Sabo’s flashback regarding the Levely events. Titled “The Holy Land in Tumult! Sai and Leo’s Full-Power Blow!”, this episode reveals a crucial moment for the Revolutionary Army members Sabo, Morley, Karasu, and Lindbergh during their mission in the Holy Land of Mary Geoise.

As Saint Charlos attempts once again to capture Shirahoshi, Sai and Leo rush in to defend the Mermaid Princess from the vile Celestial Dragon. The Straw Hat Grand Fleet members execute a fierce attack on Charlos, successfully saving Shirahoshi. Although their intervention was key, another character also significantly impacted the situation.

Despite being a Celestial Dragon himself, Saint Donquixote Mjosgard took action to assist Sai, Leo, and Shirahoshi in One Piece episode 1118.

Mjosgard’s unexpected behavior derives from a transformative past encounter that altered his perspective significantly.

Saint Charlos, a particularly despicable Celestial Dragon, had previously attempted to kidnap Shirahoshi. Sai and Leo intervened, but were thwarted by CP0 agent Rob Lucci.

Fortunately, Mjosgard intervened, striking Charlos to stop his vile intentions.

However, Charlos persisted. On the fourth day of the Levely, he attempted to capture Shirahoshi again, this time assisted by Bartholomew Kuma, who was transformed into a mere cyborg slave for the Celestial Dragons.

Charlos commanded Kuma to bind Shirahoshi, enjoying the torment.

While others looked away, Shirahoshi’s brothers, Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, and Manboshi, rushed to defend her.

Claiming his Celestial Dragon status granted him dominion over Fish-Men and Merfolk, Charlos ordered Kuma to crush the brothers.

Kuma unleashed a formidable laser blast, which they narrowly evaded. Shortly afterward, Sai and Leo appeared with Mjosgard, who warned Fukaboshi to stay back.

Mjosgard explained that he was unable to attack Charlos since royal bloodlines were easily recognizable and could lead to punishment for their homelands.

In contrast, pirates like Sai and Leo could act with little fear of repercussions, as they were already outlaws. Charlos, recalling earlier events, commanded Kuma to eliminate Mjosgard.

In response, Sai and Leo simultaneously struck Charlos.

Their combined attack left Charlos severely injured, causing panic among those nearby, including Saint Rosward, over the potential killing of a Celestial Dragon.

As Kuma prepared to retaliate, Morley from the Revolutionary Army saved the day.

Using his Devil Fruit abilities to emerge from the ground, Morley seized Kuma and rescued him, fulfilling one of the Revolutionary Army’s objectives—retrieving Bartholomew Kuma.

Meanwhile, Mjosgard helped Sai and Leo escape Mary Geoise.

With their swift escape, the attackers of Charlos remained anonymous, prompting the World Government to label the incident as an attempted murder against a Celestial Dragon by unspecified assailants.

The Significance of Mjosgard’s Actions

Saint Mjosgard not only saved Shirahoshi but also averted a potential conflict between the Fish-Man race and the World Government, preserving a delicate peace cultivated over years.

Mjosgard’s surprising actions reflect a significant transformation. A decade ago, he regarded himself as superior to non-nobles, akin to Charlos.

Ten years prior, he traveled to Fish-Man Island to reclaim some stolen slaves. Unfortunately, his ship was attacked and wrecked, leaving him surrounded by former slaves eager to exact revenge. He was rescued by Queen Otohime of the Ryugu Kingdom.

Mjosgard initially dismissed Otohime’s vision of ending animosity between Fish-Men and humans. Even after she aided him, he intended to leave without gratitude.

To his shock, Otohime chose to accompany him to demonstrate that humans and Fish-Men could coexist.

Eventually, her kindness compelled Mjosgard to reassess his beliefs and feel immense gratitude towards her. Following her departure, Otohime returned with a document from the World Government, assuring Fish-Men the right to migrate to the surface of the One Piece world.

Thanks to Otohime, Mjosgard underwent profound change, realizing the absurdity of his previous beliefs. He began to view himself as an equal, a notion foreign to a typical Celestial Dragon.

Tragically, some years later, Otohime was murdered by Hody Jones, a Fish-Man who opposed her ideals and sought to incite further hatred between species. Even in her last moments, she exhibited kindness, urging her sons to harbor no animosity towards her killer.

In Otohime’s honor, Mjosgard actively supported her dream of fostering unity and interspecies harmony. During the Levely, he did everything possible to protect her sons, even assaulting a fellow Celestial Dragon and accepting the repercussions.

By rescuing Shirahoshi from Charlos’s grip and protecting Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, and Manboshi from engaging Charlos, Mjosgard safeguarded Otohime’s vision.

Had Fukaboshi and the other brothers attacked Charlos, the fate of Fish-Man Island would have been dire, potentially triggering the World Government to respond with extreme measures against them. Instead, Mjosgard insisted that the assault was executed by rogue pirates like Sai and Leo.

Saint Mjosgard’s narrative of redemption serves as a stark contrast to most Celestial Dragons in One Piece, who are largely depicted as villainous, exemplifying the theme of moral complexity and human capability for change.
