Imu is increasingly appearing in the One Piece anime, igniting discussions surrounding their enigmatic voice, and fans believe they may have uncovered a new clue.
As the primary antagonist of the series, Imu plays a significant role in One Piece. With the manga advancing into the Elbaf Arc, the anime is currently showcasing some of the supreme ruler’s most pivotal scenes.
For the first time, fans were able to hear Imu’s voice, but the voice actor remains uncredited, fueling various theories. In Episode 1119, the character’s actions escalate as they eliminate Cobra, adding to the intrigue.
In their speculation about Imu, fans are increasingly connecting them to another renowned franchise, Fullmetal Alchemist. Specifically, the character Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has a voice quality that resembles Imu; a female actor voices a male character, creating an ethereal effect.
Many agree on the similarities. “It sounds exactly like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood’s Pride. The VA was a girl but the character was a guy (or I guess nonbinary since homunculus),” noted one commenter on Reddit.
“It’s almost exactly Pride’s voice from FMA Brotherhood, and that character was a male child,” another commented. “Imu’s giving me FMA Homunculus vibes – specifically Pride,” a third observer stated.
It’s often highlighted that there isn’t enough information to determine Imu’s gender. This ambiguity may be a deliberate choice, as creator Eiichiro Oda has not explicitly revealed Imu’s gender. Fans speculate this might suggest some form of misdirection. Toei Animation is clearly attuned to the fanbase’s reactions and appears to be adapting accordingly.
As Imu continues to have a prominent presence, they remain surrounded by mystery. Given the longstanding nature of One Piece, it may take time before any clarity emerges. For the latest updates, check our guides on Saturn’s death and Chapter 1126.
