After the release of Chapter 1116, One Piece will go on yet another hiatus, much to the disappointment of fans.
As One Piece enters its Final Saga and approaches the end of the Egghead Arc, tension is high in the manga. Each chapter continues to reveal surprising information about the expansive lore. However, this excitement will soon come to a stop as One Piece is set to go on another hiatus following the release of Chapter 1116.
Despite its popularity, the manga has been experiencing frequent breaks in recent years. This began in late 2023 when creator Eiichiro Oda took a lengthy hiatus to undergo eye surgery. As a result, the manga has continued to encounter frequent breaks due to the author’s ongoing health concerns.
Despite this, Oda has consistently produced exceptional work almost every week, impressing his fans with his storytelling and strong work ethic. However, the passing of Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, further affected the pacing of the long-running manga series.
After the passing of the renowned mangaka, Oda took a break to prioritize his well-being. Following Chapter 1111, One Piece was put on hold for a month from March 24 to April 21, 2024. The manga also went on hiatus again after Chapter 1113 in observance of Golden Week in Japan.
After Chapter 1114, there was a short hiatus. However, after two weeks of serialization, One Piece will once again go on a break following the release of Chapter 1116 on June 2, 2024. As a result, Chapter 1117 is scheduled to be released on June 16.
Despite the impact on the pacing of the manga, the author takes these frequent breaks with regards to his well-being. With the series having been ongoing for almost 27 years, these hiatuses are crucial for the author’s physical and mental health.
Despite this, the frequent breaks in the One Piece series are causing dissatisfaction among fans. Numerous individuals are voicing their concerns about how these interruptions are disrupting the excitement surrounding the manga.
A user on X writes, “Another break, phew. It’s no longer amusing…”
“Another person comments, ‘Oda seems to be taking a break every 2 chapters. The last 3-4 chapters have been focused on the world’s reaction and nothing else.’”
“A third person joins in, questioning the change from receiving 3 chapters and a break to now only getting 2 chapters before a break.”
Despite the author frequently taking breaks, many fans remain understanding due to the length and high quality of One Piece. One fan even comments, “Oda has been putting in a lot of effort. Take your break and enjoy it.”
Another user points out, “It’s clear that Oda is taking his time after Toriyama sensei’s passing and prioritizing his health, resulting in a one week break after every two chapters. This change in schedule has also resulted in a significant improvement in the artwork.”
Despite the frequent hiatuses, One Piece continues to deliver a strong story and impressive artwork. It is anticipated that the manga will eventually return to its regular schedule.
