One Piece: Karasu’s Devil Fruit powers revealed in episode 1117

In episode 1117 of the One Piece anime, titled Sabo Returns! The Shocking Truth to Be Told!, Sabo’s flashback reveals the recent events of the Levely. Despite initial assumptions that Sabo had perished during the destruction of Lulusia, he miraculously survived by being on a nearby ship when Imu-sama obliterated the island.

Upon reaching Momoiro Island, Sabo immediately met with Monkey D. Dragon and Emporio Ivankov to update them on the events that had transpired about a month prior. In light of the Levely, which had brought together rulers from various parts of the One Piece universe at Mary Geoise, the Revolutionary Army had tasked Sabo, Morley, Karasu, and Lindbergh with infiltrating and assaulting the World Government’s sacred territory.

During the events where Lindbergh freed the slaves and Sabo searched for the keys to Bartholomew Kuma’s shackles, Karasu and Morley focused on keeping Fujitora and Ryokugyu occupied. They utilized the Admirals’ restraint in order to prevent the destruction of Mary Geoise. Interestingly, One Piece episode 1117 uncovers the name and abilities of Karasu’s Devil Fruit powers, which he employed during the assault on Mary Geoise.

Ever since his debut in the One Piece series, Karasu has demonstrated his ability to shape-shift into a flock of crows for a variety of purposes. Following the two-year timeskip, he utilized this skill to distribute newspapers to his allies. Following the resolution of the Dressrosa incident, he arrived with a massive gathering of ravens to transport Sabo, Koala, and Hack to the Revolutionary Army’s vessel.

During one instance, Karasu joined forces with Lindbergh, Morley, and Belo Betty in order to safeguard the Lulusia Kingdom from the attacks of the Peachbeard Pirates. As a united front, the four leaders of the Revolutionary Army effortlessly defeated the invaders who had sought to plunder the kingdom. During the encounter, Karasu cleverly utilized his crows to disarm the henchmen of Peachbeard.

The Revolutionary Army is separated into five groups, each assigned to a distinct region of the One Piece world. Karasu serves as the leader of the northern group, which is part of the military. Monkey D. Dragon is the overall leader of the Revolutionary Army, with Sabo as his second-in-command. The main goal of the Revolutionary Army is to directly challenge the World Government and bring an end to the corrupt system of the Celestial Dragons.

The latest Levely, taking place about one month before the current One Piece narration, saw a group of influential Revolutionary Army members launch an attack on the World Government’s capital city, Mary Geoise.

According to the report by Sabo in One Piece episode 1117, the main goals of the operation were to break the emblem of the Celestial Dragons as a symbolic declaration of war against the World Government, to demolish the food reserves of Mary Geoise, and to liberate the slaves oppressed in the Holy Land, including Bartholomew Kuma who was a former member of the Revolutionary Army.

During the chaotic Levely, Karasu heavily relied on his Devil Fruit abilities to assist his allies and ensure the success of their mission. Despite fans initially assuming he was a Zoan user due to his powers being themed around crows, One Piece episode 1117 revealed the surprising truth.

Explaining the Soot-Soot Fruit

Surprising everyone, the latest episode of One Piece, episode 1117, unveiled the truth about Karasu’s ravens. It turns out that they are a product of the Soot-Soot Fruit, a mysterious type of Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to generate and control soot, which is made up of carbon particles produced from the incomplete burning of organic substances.

Despite the ongoing debate, there is reason to believe that the Soot-Soot Fruit belongs to the Logia category rather than the Paramecia. One reason is that Karasu can transform his body into soot and allow attacks to pass through him, similar to other Logia users. Additionally, soot is a natural substance, and Logia-type Devil Fruits are known to grant powers over natural elements.

Nevertheless, unlike ice, fire, lightning, and other elements found in their natural and pure states, soot is a derivative. Considering this, it is plausible that the Soot-Soot Fruit may not be classified as a Logia but rather as a Special Paramecia, similar to Charlotte Katakuri’s Mochi-Mochi Fruit. In essence, a Special Paramecia possesses all the characteristics of a Logia, except for its official designation.

Karasu possesses the ability to compress soot, allowing him to transform his body into multiple crow-shaped pieces. This enables him to effortlessly soar through the air, reaching remarkable speeds and carrying various objects. His mastery over soot also enables him to communicate with others through each individual crow. With his exceptional control, Karasu can manipulate the shape and density of the soot according to his needs.

While attacking Mary Geoise, a Celestial Dragon attempted to murder his slave. However, Karasu intervened and used his Soot-Soot Fruit abilities to steal the noble’s firearm, ultimately saving the slave’s life. In response, the Celestial Dragon’s bodyguards fired at Karasu, but the Revolutionary Army officer transformed his entire body into soot, allowing the bullets to pass through him without causing harm.

After transforming into soot, Karasu used a technique called Obeli-Soots. While in this form, he moved past the bodyguards and scattered soot among them. Soon after, the soot materialized into sharp and sturdy spikes that impaled Karasu’s opponents, causing them to be thrown into the air.

As Lindbergh continued to release the slaves, Karasu launched an attack on Admiral Fujitora in an attempt to prevent the Marine officer from intervening. In the meantime, Morley engaged in a battle with Admiral Ryokugyu to keep him occupied.

This time, Karasu utilized his signature move, Crow Soul Lotus, to transform tightly packed soot into a group of crows. He directed the birds towards Fujitora, hoping to overwhelm him with their sheer numbers and swiftness. However, the Admiral effortlessly defended himself by deflecting the attack with his Yakuza Kasen sword.
