One Piece Live Action season 2 new staff list shows changes in showrunners

On Friday, April 12, 2024, there was an interesting update on the production of the highly anticipated second season of One Piece Live Action, the follow-up to Netflix’s hit adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga series. According to the official Writer’s Guild of America website, the latest staff list reveals that Steven Maeda, a fan-favorite member of the season 1 team, will no longer be serving as showrunner for season 2.

In particular, Maeda’s name has been removed from all staff credits for season 2 of One Piece Live Action, as seen on the latest list on the official Writer’s Guild of America website. Joe Tracz will now take over as both Showrunner and Executive Producer, succeeding Maeda from season 1.

Despite the lack of announcement from the team behind One Piece Live Action season 2 news regarding Maeda’s involvement, it remains a mystery as to why he was removed from the production. Of particular interest is the return of Matt Owens, who was previously credited as Showrunner in interviews for the first season, now taking on the roles of showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming season.

One Piece Live Action Season 2 Gets New Showrunner to Lead Next Chapter

The fact that Owens will be resuming his roles as Showrunner and Executive Producer for the production of One Piece Live Action season 2 should ease the worries of fans. Although Maeda’s departure is a cause for concern, Owens’ continued involvement in the series ensures that the essence of what fans appreciated in season 1 will be preserved in the upcoming season.

In addition, Tracz’s previous experience before joining the production gives fans confidence in the quality of the second season. His most recent work, aside from the Netflix series being discussed, is the successful Disney+ show Percy Jackson and the Olympians, for which he wrote two episodes. Other notable credits include his writing for Netflix’s 2017 program A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The only major change to the season 2 staff is the replacement of Tracz with Maeda. The rest of the staff remains largely unchanged from season 1. However, there are some notable new names taking on roles that were previously held by season 1 staff members who have been promoted. For instance, Alex Regnery has taken over Tom Hyndman’s role as Staff Writer for season 2, while Hyndman is now credited as a Producer.

As previously stated, the second season of One Piece Live Action continues the live-action version of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series with the same title. Oda’s original manga was first published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 1997 and is currently in its Final Saga. Toei Animation also began airing a television anime adaptation of the series in October 1999, which is still ongoing.

The renowned animation studio, Wit Studio, known for producing beloved series like Attack on Titan and Spy x Family, has announced that they will be remaking the anime series. The upcoming remake, titled THE ONE PIECE, already has a teaser trailer released. However, no further details about the remake have been revealed at the time of writing this article.
