One Piece manga to go on break after chapter 1114: Release schedule explained

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the internet was flooded with spoilers and leaks for the newest addition to Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece series. These spoilers also revealed that chapter 1114 would officially be released on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 12AM Japanese Standard Time (JST), followed by a break week. This means that chapter 1115’s official release date would be on Monday, May 27, 2024 at 12AM JST.

As a result, Oda’s series will have a total of only two chapters released in May due to the current Shueisha publication break for the Golden Week holiday and the subsequent break week specifically for One Piece. Although this may be disappointing, it is an indication that the release schedule will become more consistent starting in June, allowing readers to follow the Egghead arc at a steady and dependable pace.

Upcoming Release Schedule for One Piece Manga: Only Four Chapters in April and May 2024

Despite being a standard practice for bi-weekly series, the recent announcement of a One Piece break week has caused disappointment among certain fans. This is due to the fact that only four chapters will have been released in the span of two months, a stark contrast to the usual weekly release schedule of Oda’s manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Despite the circumstances, it is difficult to fault Oda for the recent delays in the release schedule of his manga. The hiatus lasting three weeks from late March 2024 was a result of Oda mourning the loss of the renowned mangaka Akira Toriyama. Oda has often acknowledged Toriyama as a mentor and close friend, and their relationship has been extensively documented within these roles.

After publishing chapters 1112 and 1113 on Monday, April 22 and Monday, April 28, respectively, Oda announced that there would be a publication break during Golden Week. This break is currently ongoing and the spoiler process for chapter 1114 has already begun.

While it may be disappointing to hear about the break week following chapter 1114, fans can view it as a teaser for what’s to come. Oda is known for taking breaks sparingly, usually only for urgent matters or to prepare for significant developments in the series. As the Egghead arc nears its peak, it’s safe to say that June will be an electrifying and captivating month for the record-breaking manga series.

Aside from the manga, the anime adaptations of the series are reaching a thrilling stage in their development. Toei Animation’s mainline television adaptation has recently started the Egghead arc, earning high acclaim from viewers as it steadily advances. At the same time, Wit Studio has also announced that they are currently working on a remake adaptation of the series.

Since its inception in July 1997 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Oda’s One Piece manga has become the top-selling series of all time with over half-a-billion copies in circulation globally. The latest updates from Oda reveal that the manga is currently in its “Final Saga,”which commenced with the Egghead arc, indicating that the anime is also in the Final Saga now.
