One Piece reveals Spirited Away star as Sabo’s replacement

One Piece has announced the new voice actor for Sabo, who has previously worked on popular titles such as Spirited Away and Kingdom Hearts.

Due to the controversy surrounding an affair Toru Furuya had with a fan, the One Piece cast had to make a change in the actor portraying Sabo. Furuya stepped away from the role and admitted to being abusive during the relationship in a post on X/Twitter in May 2024.

Despite the fallout, he still left some of the top anime shows, such as One Piece and Detective Conan, and parted ways with the agencies that managed him. Recently, the announcement of his successor for the No 2 position in the Revolutionary Army has been made.

The announcement has been made that Miyu Irino will be taking on the role of Sabo, beginning with One Piece Episode 1116 on Sunday, August 16, 2024. Known as a legend in both the anime and video game industries, Miyu joins an impressive list of credits for Eiichiro Oda’s beloved ongoing franchise.

One noteworthy aspect is that Miyu plays the role of Haku in Spirited Away, the highly acclaimed anime film by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Additionally, he is known for his portrayal of Sora in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, a prominent and long-standing character in this popular series.

He has appeared in numerous anime such as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Naruto, Haikyuu!!, A Silent Voice, Garden of Words, Dragon Ball Super, and many others. Interestingly, this is not his first time joining the Straw Hats on their journey.

In 2007, Miyu had a smaller and more temporary role as Jiro in One Piece. However, 17 years later, he has returned for a much larger and permanent role.

The franchise marked its 25th anniversary this year and also set new Guinness World Records. The popularity of Luffy and his crewmates continues to rise, with One Piece now embarking on the Elbaf Arc. To discover the latest updates in Chapter 1123, check out our guide.
