Chapter 1111 of One Piece seems to confirm that Luffy has indeed unlocked the secret behind the powers of the Five Elders, which stand out from anything we have seen so far in the manga.
This was the big surprise of this end of the Egghead arc: the true appearance of the members of the Gorosei, reunited on the island by the summoning of Saturn in the midst of the chaos of the Buster Call. With the aim of stopping the broadcast of Vegapunk, the terrifying leaders of the world have finally taken action.
However, details have remained scarce so far concerning them. Although their true form was revealed to readers, it did not make it possible to formally identify the origin of their power. Is it related to a devil fruit, or is it something else? It seems that Luffy has just the solution, as we can see in One Piece chapter 1111.
Chapter 1111 offers new details on the Gorosei’s powers in One Piece
In One Piece chapter 1111, Luffy comes to the conclusion that all members of the Gorosei are immortal, since no attack works against them.
Saturn’s powers have already been demonstrated in combat: in addition to his monstrous form, he has regeneration allowing him to regrow severed limbs with the snap of a finger. However, the series currently has three Healing type devil fruits: unsurprisingly, that of Healing (Chiyu Chiyu no Mi from Mansherry), but also that of the Scalpel (Ope Ope no Mi from Trafalgar Law) and the mythical Zoan fruit of Phoenix model (Tori Tori no Mi de Marco).
Yet none of these three fruits can hope to compare to the abilities of Saturn, whose wounds disappear in a flash. Indeed, in addition to being able to throw poison and change shape, the Dean remains unharmed regardless of Luffy’s attacks. Worse: this is not a particularity of the character, since the other members of the Gorosei have the same power.
While devil fruits seem the most obvious reason, readers still have reason to believe that such a revelation hides something more. In One Piece chapter 1111, Luffy, Dorry and Broggy face three members of the Gorosei. But it is the Straw Hat Captain who will make it clear that it is better to flee, declaring “They are immortal!!”
To which Dorry and Broggy respond by expressing their surprise: the life expectancy of giants is measured in centuries, but they have never heard of such a power or of a race possessing these properties. If we add to this immortality the ghostly form of the silhouettes of Doyens, strongly resembling that of the enigmatic Imu, the mystery only thickens, while moving away from the devil fruits.
It is therefore very likely that the sequel to One Piece will contain even more revelations about who the members of the Gorosei really are. But to find out more, you will have to wait until the end of the manga’s long hiatus, which will only return after a few weeks.
