One Piece’s Egghead arc is the perfect mirror of Sabaody, and it brings everything full circle

The Egghead arc in the One Piece manga has recently concluded and has sparked various opinions on its storyline. @writingpanini, an X user, has drawn a comparison between this arc and the Sabaody arc, providing an intriguing interpretation. According to the user, Egghead serves as a complete reflection of Sabaody, offering the Straw Hats a sense of closure.

Sabaody is often considered as the most challenging moment for Luffy and his crew in One Piece so far. They were defeated by Admiral Kizaru and his forces, and their survival was only possible because Bartholomew Kuma was secretly on their side and decided to rescue them.

The Egghead arc highlights the series’ main crew overcoming significant challenges, and many aspects parallel the memorable section of the story.

Please note that this article includes spoilers for the series.

The Similarities Between the Egghead Arc and Sabaody in One Piece: Examining Recent Evidence

It is worth noting that Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid were first introduced in Sabaody and later met their demise in the Egghead arc at the hands of Blackbeard and Shanks. Similarly, the Straw Hats were initially defeated in the first arc but successfully escaped in the second one, with Luffy’s attempts to flee and ultimately barricade himself in the current storyline further emphasizing this parallel.

One instance of this is when Silvers Rayleigh kicked Kizaru in Sabaody, demonstrating that he possessed a strength one hundred times greater than that of the Straw Hats at the time. In the most recent arc, Luffy also kicked the Admiral, declaring that he and his crew had become one hundred times stronger. Additionally, Kizaru and Luffy share similarities as each arc depicts one attempting to stop the other, with the Admiral being unable to save his friends in the Egghead arc and the protagonist failing to save his own in Sabaody.

After Bartholomew Kuma uses his teleportation powers to send his entire crew away, Luffy weeps in Sabaody, feeling helpless that he was unable to save any of them. However, in the current storyline, he manages to rescue all of his Straw Hat crew members and even a powerful figure like Vegapunk. The first arc sees Luffy punching a Celestial Dragon, while the second arc features Kuma punching Saturn, a leader among the group of people.

Additional Similarities

The One Piece arc also showcases the theme of Bonney’s actions mirroring one another. In Sabaody, she saved a Celestial Dragon from a sword attack by Zoro. This parallels the most recent storyline where she uses a sword to harm another Celestial Dragon, Saturn. Additionally, while all the Supernova escaped Sabaody, only Luffy remained there. Similarly, in the Egghead arc, Saturn was the sole one who stayed until the end.

Both Sabaody and Egghead feature a cyborg rescuing the Straw Hats, with Kuma and Emeth playing those roles respectively. One could even argue that the recent arc has a parallel to Demalo Black impersonating Luffy, as seen in Devon’s ability to impersonate Saturn.

Final Thoughts

While the Sabaody arc was a significant event in the One Piece series as it depicted Luffy and his crew’s first failure in the manga, the Egghead arc also presented similar obstacles but effectively showcased the crew’s development and progress throughout the narrative.
