The One Piece franchise is well-known for its masterful narrative, multifaceted cast, and enigmatic “Will of D.”that connects specific individuals to a remarkable destiny. The recent appearance of Saturn, one of the Five Elders, in a manga panel has generated a great deal of excitement and conjecture among avid followers.
This panel implies that Saturn was experimenting with a personal hypothesis involving Monkey D. Luffy and Bonney. His hypothesis suggests that the Will of D. gives individuals a degree of influence over their destiny, enabling them to survive through extraordinary circumstances until they willingly embrace their own mortality.
One Piece: Saturn’s theory about Luffy and Bonney’s fates
A manga panel from the One Piece series gained considerable attention as it hinted that Saturn was putting his own theory to the test. He noted that he now understood why Kizaru had failed to kill Luffy, and as he tried to take matters into his own hands by attacking a defenseless Luffy, the crew stepped in just in time to rescue him.
It was intriguing that Saturn did not seem taken aback by the rescue. His response indicated that he had expected some kind of event to occur, and it turned out to be the crew saving Luffy.
In the following scene, Saturn appeared to anticipate that Luffy would be rescued in some way. While discussing Luffy’s destiny, Bonney was also mentioned. Remarkably, in the aftermath, Bonney was on the verge of death multiple times but was miraculously saved, almost as if fate had intervened.
Throughout One Piece, Bonney has been saved multiple times by both Kuma and Sanji. These events caused me to reflect on the first time such miraculous rescues occurred in the series, which can be traced back to Chapter 99. In this particular chapter, Luffy, who was on the verge of being executed by Buggy in Loguetown, is unexpectedly saved by the enigmatic figure known as Dragon.
One Piece: The Repeated Escapes of the D. Clan
Upon further contemplation of these occurrences, a recurring trend arose in which the People of D. were confronted with mortality, yet were ultimately rescued by Oda’s use of deus ex machina. A clear similarity was apparent among these individuals – in addition to carrying the D. initial, they all defied their inevitable demise by refusing to accept it.
Despite their numerous opportunities for death, they refused to accept their fate. For instance, Ace could have perished multiple times at Marineford, but he only met his end when he made the conscious decision to sacrifice himself for Luffy’s sake. Similarly, Roger made the choice to die even as he battled a fatal illness. This trend was also seen in others like Ace, who welcomed death when it came for them.
According to the theory, the Will of D. is a trait that is passed down through bloodlines (as seen with the D. and Nefertari families) or inherited through spirit (such as with the Buccaneers, Minks, and Kozuki clans). This trait grants individuals a level of influence over their destiny, allowing them to cheat death unless they willingly accept it on their own terms. In such cases, destiny is believed to intervene and use miraculous methods to ensure their survival.
This is apparent in situations where Luffy endured on the execution platform, persevered through multiple brushes with death, such as being revived after facing Kaido, and Law’s resilience through various perilous situations from Punk Hazard to post-Wano, particularly during his upbringing, against Doflamingo, and against Blackbeard.
Despite enduring multiple near-death situations at Marineford, Ace ultimately made the decision to sacrifice himself. Blackbeard has continually evaded death, Vivi has managed to stay alive despite the risks of her identity and travels to Mariejois, and it was eventually revealed that Jaguar D. Saul had somehow survived.
Concluding Remarks
After analyzing the latest One Piece chapters and considering Saturn’s statement, it can be inferred that Bonney is most likely part of the D. clan or acquired this trait from being raised by a Buccaneer. This theory is reinforced by her ability to survive multiple life-threatening situations. The World Government is afraid of this revelation because the idea of having the power to conveniently escape danger is too dangerous to be made public.
