The idea of a massive flood in the world of One Piece has been a topic of discussion among fans for a long time. Recent developments have confirmed its existence, with the revelation of Imu and the Ancient Weapon Uranus as the catalysts for the rising sea levels. However, some fans speculate that this event may have been the result of a conflict between two powerful forces.
The oceans in One Piece continue to hold an air of mystique throughout the story. The specific explanation for the diminishing effects of seawater and seastone on devil fruits and their abilities has yet to be uncovered.
Nonetheless, certain theories propose that this phenomenon could potentially be attributed to the ocean’s deliberate choice to resist devil fruits.

One Piece: The Conflict Between the Sea and Imu
The Egghead Island arc of the One Piece manga has recently come to an end, with the crew now headed towards Elbaf. Throughout this arc, we were introduced to the true appearance of the Five Elders and the powerful time-capsule haki of Joy Boy, which was able to neutralize them. However, the most significant event of the arc was the revelation of the sinking of the One Piece world.
Despite Vegapunk’s revelation that the current world is made up of remnants of continents that submerged 800 years prior, his theory that the Ancient Weapons were solely responsible for the world’s sinking may not be the complete truth.
The sea level has recently risen as a result of Imu’s use of a mysterious weapon to destroy Lulusia.
Out of the Ancient Weapons Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus, only Poseidon and Pluton have been partially investigated. No information or clues have been provided about the appearance or purpose of Uranus.
There is a possibility that Uranus was the weapon used by Imu to destroy Lulusia and could be the hidden treasure of Mary Geoise, as suggested by characters such as Doflamingo.
Although Uranus may rely on the “Mother Flame”for its energy, it may also have a secondary requirement. Doflamingo had previously stated that Law’s Ope Ope no Mi, particularly its ability to grant immortality, is crucial in obtaining the treasure of Mary Geoise.
Operating Uranus may require both an energy source and immortality. It has been previously disclosed that the sea’s curse on Devil Fruit users is a result of their unnatural status, making them vulnerable to the sea.
It has been hypothesized that Devil Fruits are representations of one’s dreams and wishes. As immortality has long been considered the ultimate desire of humanity, the emergence of actual immortality through a Devil Fruit would be seen as extremely unnatural by those at sea.
It is possible that Imu, who has been hinted at being immortal, is using their immortality to control Uranus. This could incur the wrath of the sea, as it goes against the natural laws of life. The sea recognizes this as a transgression similar to immortality itself.
The possibility exists that the sea is deliberately increasing its levels to eliminate Imu in a fit of anger. It is also possible that 800 years ago, Imu orchestrated the sinking of the world as a strategic move to capitalize on the sea’s fury and establish themselves as the leader of a new world.
Final Thoughts
The ocean, known to be more enigmatic than any other entity or object, has captivated fans for decades. The One Piece saga concluded the Egghead Island arc, leaving only Lilith as the sole survivor of Vegapunk.
The Straw Hat crew is currently en route to Elbaf, which is set to be the main location for the highly anticipated Elbaf arc.
Based on the fact that the story is currently in its Final Saga, there is a chance that Oda will provide further information about the sea’s hostility towards those who possess Devil Fruits.
