According to a post on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform, it appears that OnePlus is currently developing a flip phone that will feature a telephoto camera.
According to leaker Smart Pikachu, OnePlus is possibly developing a flip phone that will have a telephoto camera and macro features. This information was reported by Android Authority, who also mentioned that the Oppo Find N3 Flip, currently only sold in India and some South Asian countries, is the only other flip phone with these camera capabilities.
Samsung’s traditional flip phones typically feature a dual camera configuration consisting of a primary camera and an ultrawide lens. For example, the Z Flip 5 model boasts a 12MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide lens. It is anticipated that the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 will also maintain this same camera setup.
The addition of a telephoto camera to their flip phone lineup will significantly benefit OnePlus, especially considering the segment’s reputation for lacking quality camera systems. In fact, their previous foldable model, the OnePlus Open, offered superior features, a more durable hinge, and an impressive display, all at a lower price than the Pixel Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
In the event that a OnePlus Flip phone is released worldwide, it is probable that it will be a rebranded version of an Oppo flip phone (similar to the OnePlus Open, which is also a rebranded Oppo phone). Given that Oppo’s most recent flip phone, the Oppo Find N3 Flip, was unveiled last year, the speculated OnePlus flip may possibly be a rebranded Oppo Find N3 Flip 5, set to launch in the coming months. It should be noted that the Find N3 Flip 4 is being skipped, as the number four is considered unlucky in Chinese culture.
