OneXPlayer reveals new competitor to Steam Deck with interchangeable SSD

OneXPlayer is looking to enter the handheld market with the X1 Mini, which boasts a range of innovative features including interchangeable storage and detachable controllers.

It’s becoming increasingly common for a new handheld gaming device to be revealed every week. Despite not being a top player in the industry, OneXPlayer is determined to establish itself with the recent announcement of the X1 Mini.

The OneXPlayer company has a history of manufacturing handheld devices, including the OneXPlayer Pro 2. However, their latest release aims to stand out with its distinctive features, particularly the ability to swap out SSDs. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who use their handhelds as both desktop replacements and for entertainment purposes.

Lin Wang, CEO of OneXPlayer, stated that the team’s goal with the X1 Mini was to consider the input of the community and integrate features that would enhance their daily experiences. He further explained that the swappable SSD feature perfectly showcases this approach, as it not only allows for additional storage but also offers the versatility to customize the device for various situations.

Like the Nintendo Switch and Lenovo Legion Go, the X1 Mini also features detachable controllers for added versatility. Its display is a 8.8-inch IPS touchscreen with a 144MHz refresh rate, making it one of the largest handheld displays available in the market.

The X1 Mini utilizes the AMD 8840U CPU, a modified version of the highly capable AMD Ryzen 7 7840U commonly used in other handheld devices. This guarantees that the device is more than capable of handling numerous contemporary AAA games.

The OneXPlayer X1 Mini will be offered to individuals who back the upcoming IndieGoGo campaign. Those who are interested in obtaining the device can register early to receive discounts when the campaign is launched.
