OpTic Texas Loses CDL Match After Players Die to Disabled Feature

OpTic Texas suffered a defeat in a CDL match when Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Brandon “Dashy” Otell were killed due to an environmental explosion that was supposedly deactivated by Modern Warfare 3 developers in Season 4 on Highrise.

When Season 4 was released, modifications were implemented on various maps to address multiple bugs, particularly for Ranked Play and CDL matches. This included disabling environmental explosions on Highrise specifically.

The removal of environmental explosives was announced to have occurred during Season 4’s update for both CDL and Ranked Play. According to the patch notes, it was stated that these explosives will no longer be present in both modes.

Despite the supposed removal of the explosion, it was still functional during the CDL Major 4 Qualifiers. OpTic Texas discovered this on June 2, when they died due to the unexpected explosion.

During the third map of their match against Vegas Legion on Highrise Control, OpTic Texas set up a defense to hold a zone. However, while bunkered down in the zone, two players, namely Shotzzy and Dashy, were unexpectedly killed by an environmental explosion.

The blast originated from a propane tank located in zone A, which was capable of causing destruction. This put OpTic at a disadvantage, ultimately leading to their loss in the round.

Despite the mystery surrounding the explosion’s presence in the game, Amer “Pred”Zulbeari, who was in close proximity to the blast, miraculously survived without any harm.

Despite the players not being too bothered by the “removed”environmental explosion, OpTic Texas’ Twitter account took advantage of the situation by retweeting one of their previous posts that had praised its removal.

With the unexpected explosion benefiting Vegas Legion, Optic Texas subsequently lost the series 2-3, resulting in the team’s first loss of the Major Qualifier and Vegas’s first win.

Just days after their Major 3 victory in Canada, OpTic suffers a loss.

On June 9, Minnesota Røkkr will face off against OpTic Texas in their next match.
