OpTic Texas win first Call of Duty Championship since 2017

OpTic Texas made history by lifting the Call of Duty League Championship trophy for the first time since 2017.

OpTic Texas unquestionably possesses one of the most fervent fan bases in the league, as evidenced by the thousands who fill the stage at the Credit Union of Texas Events Center in Allen, Texas.

The last tournament of the year, organized by OpTic, featured the team dominating the upper bracket and eventually facing off against the former CoD Champions, the New York Subliners.

The significance of this matchup went beyond just the game itself. OpTic’s return to the grand final after seven years was a highly anticipated event, while the Subliners had the opportunity to make history as the first CoD organization to win consecutive championships.

“Kenny expressed his joy after the match, stating, “It’s an incredible feeling to achieve this with a different team. I have a great bond with these boys. We put in a lot of effort to get here, despite facing challenges along the way. But in the end, we emerged victorious and that makes me very happy.”

After the victory, Shotzzy was presented with the tournament MVP award, and the audience chanted “superstar”over and over again.

OpTic utilized their winner’s bracket advantage to handpick the maps for the best-of-nine match, securing an early 4-1 lead against the Subliners. This was their second encounter in the tournament, as the Subliners had previously fallen to OpTic.

OpTic had a stellar year, winning the Major 3 trophy and securing the championship just a few months later. Not to be outdone, the Subliners also had an impressive year, placing fourth overall and claiming their own trophy at Major 4.

Despite losing the first Control in the series, OpTic managed to bounce back and win the championship in a nail-biter fifth round by securing a victory on the second Control. Their only falter was in the third map, but they were able to overcome it and ultimately emerge as champions.

Following OpTic Texas’ win against the Subliners, both Kenny and Shotzzy have now joined the ranks of elite players with multiple championship rings. Additionally, Dashy and Pred are celebrating their first-ever rings, while their coach Damon continues to add to his impressive collection, now boasting a total of four rings – three as a player and one as a coach.
