The Steam Deck is compatible with Overwatch 2 right out of the box. Since Blizzard now distributes their games on Steam, there is no need for complicated installation instructions.
If you prefer, you can install Battle.net and access the game through that platform. To make the installation process easier, we suggest using a tool such as Non-Steam Launcher.
Even on Low settings, Overwatch 2 does not require significant adjustments to its graphics. The art style and chunky graphics still appear impressive on the Deck’s 800p screen. With our settings on the OLED, achieving a 90FPS should be achievable without difficulty.
Optimal Graphics Settings for Overwatch 2 on Steam Deck
These are our top settings for playing Blizzard’s hero shooter on the go:
Video:
- Resolution: 1280×800
- V-Sync: On (this will help prevent screen tearing mid-match)
Graphics Quality
- Graphics quality: Medium
As a result, all settings will be adjusted to medium quality automatically. While we have managed to achieve 60FPS or lower during more intense battles with FSR 2.2 on High and Ultra settings, we have found that medium quality provides better overall performance.
We suggest using medium settings to maintain a competitive frame rate.
Overwatch 2 Controller Settings on the Steam Deck
We highly suggest utilizing the trackpads, back-paddles, and considering trying out gyro aiming for certain functions.
At present, our system includes the ping feature and the L4, L5, and R5 buttons designated as bumpers.
To use gyro aiming, enable it in the Deck’s controller menu to use it as a joystick. Next, navigate to the settings (indicated by the small gear icon) and adjust the “Enhance Small Movement Precision”under General to your desired level of comfort.
Some individuals have found that placing this at 100 and then balancing the Deck is their preferred method of play, so your results may vary.
The Deck’s right stick should primarily control the aiming while being touched, but once released, the gyro should activate instantly.
The Steam Deck is ideal for playing easier heroes in Overwatch 2. For example, heroes like D.Va do not require the same level of precision as Widowmaker. Additionally, characters like Mercy, who only need a general direction for healing, are also well-suited for the Steam Deck.
Despite not separating controller players from mouse and keyboard users, it appears that Overwatch 2’s PC version does not have this distinction. While this may be perceived as a disadvantage by some, it could also be seen as a way to simplify the gameplay for oneself.
