Oscar De La Hoya: Ryan Garcia vs Gervonta Davis Rematch Condition Met

Oscar De La Hoya is prepared to put in the effort to arrange a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis, on the condition that Davis agrees to a one-fight clause.

In the aftermath of Garcia’s unexpected victory against the current WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney, the fighter from California proceeded to challenge several other opponents, including the WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.

The boxing community is eagerly anticipating a rematch between “King Ryan”and Davis, following Garcia’s defeat to him via seventh-round TKO in their first bout. During a press conference on Wednesday, reporters directed the same question to Garcia’s manager, De La Hoya, inquiring about the possibility of a second fight.

The renowned Mexican boxer stated a readiness to discuss a potential rematch with Davis’ team, on the condition that “Tank”agrees to move up in weight from 135 pounds to 143 or 144 pounds.

“Ryan Garcia has informed me that he is unable to fight at 140 pounds, so he is requesting the fight to take place at 143 or 144 pounds. Anyone interested in fighting him can contact me. Once I have discussed with Ryan and his team, we can come up with a plan and proceed with making the fight happen.”De La Hoya stated.

“The Golden Boy”is insistent because Garcia failed to make weight before the Haney fight. He weighed in at 143.2 pounds, exceeding the 140-pound limit and forfeiting the opportunity to win “The Dream’s”WBC title. Following his victory, the 5-foot-10 fighter confessed that he no longer wishes to compete in the 135-pound division as it is now deemed “unhealthy”for his well-being.

Davis moved up to the 140-pound weight class for his initial bout against Garcia, which was held at a catchweight.

Nevertheless, the pound-for-pound great has always fought at lightweight in his previous 28 matches. This trend will continue in his upcoming title bout against Frank Martin on June 15, as it will also be contested at 135 pounds.

The result of Davis’ upcoming match against Martin will have an effect on the potential for a rematch with Garcia. According to Davis’ promoter Floyd Mayweather, Garcia may need to wait approximately one and a half to two years before facing “Tank”again. However, De La Hoya’s transparency creates a foundation for the possibility of a rematch in the future.
