Toei Animation and Amazon have announced the live-action adaptation of the event anime Oshi No Ko, and fans are already letting it be known that they are not very excited. But why?
The Oshi No Ko anime debuted in 2023, and it was wildly successful. An impressive rise for the 11-episode series, which has not gone unnoticed. And like many creations in its genre, the decision to make a live-action version was finally made.
If live-action series are not always unanimously appreciated, the last few years have proven that it is always possible to create something that works. Evidenced by the success of One Piece, which convinced the Netflix audience. Unfortunately, the tendency is rather towards critical failure, adaptations often distorting the original anime in the eyes of fans.
And the first images of this Oshi No Ko live-action version seem to have confirmed the fears of spectators, who did not fail to react on social networks.
Oshi No Ko Fans Disappointed by Reveal of Live-Action Series
While fans wait for a new season, they have learned that there are also other projects around the anime: two are live-action.
The story of Oshi No Ko centers around Aqua and Ruby, twins whose mother was also the popular pop idol Ai. The star dies early in the story, and the children – whose origins are very special – decide to investigate and extend the success of the idol by launching themselves into the world of entertainment.
The projects were announced with a key visual already presenting the main cast, in costume. But on social networks, discontent is growing. Because despite – or because of – the immense love for the animated series, viewers are already expecting something very bad after this first glimpse.

“MDRRRR how ironic”
If the live-action versions horrify spectators less and less, the formula remains delicate. Netflix took years to develop it, and the reviews don’t allow it to be considered perfect yet at this stage. It’s categorical: the public still has difficulty forgetting the annoyance of versions like Cowboy Bebop or Death Note.
All that remains is to hope that Prime Video will learn from the mistakes of others to avoid the pitfalls already known. It will take that to do justice to Oshi No Ko, a series which has delighted the public so much in terms of 2023 anime.
