Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 2 review: Doga Kobo uncovers the disputes within media industry through Abiko and Goa’s conflict

As the second episode of sOshi no Ko season 2 was released, the anime explored the ongoing conflict between Abiko Samejima and Goa in more detail. Despite fans eagerly anticipating the 2.5D Stage Play, the anime has taken a different path, highlighting the disagreement between the original manga author and the scriptwriter.

Although it is a common occurrence in different forms of media, only a few series have taken the time to portray it as effectively as the Oshi no Ko anime. The manga creators Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari deserve credit for this, but Doga Kobo’s stunning depiction of it was truly exceptional.

Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Doga Kobo’s Depiction of Media Industry Disputes Explains What Goes Wrong Behind the Scenes

Many fans were enlightened by Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 2, as it revealed the behind-the-scenes process between the original creator of a story and the scriptwriters of its adaptations.

Despite fans having the freedom to express their opinions, it is rare to hear the original creator’s thoughts on adaptations that are disliked in comparison to the original. This is often due to contractual obligations that limit the creator’s ability to speak openly.

Fortunately, Oshi no Ko season 2 episode 2 was able to surpass this hurdle and accurately portrayed the emotions of an original creator when their work is adapted into other forms of media. Although the anime’s portrayal of Abiko Samejima may have been an exaggerated example, it effectively conveyed the internal struggles that manga creators often face.

Upon delivering his monologue to Aqua Hoshino and Yoriko Kichijouji, scriptwriter Goa provided valuable insights from the perspective of fans. Often, fans are quick to pass judgment on adaptations and criticize the individuals involved, but it is important to remember that they also have their own reasons for their actions.

Despite facing numerous demands from creators, producers, directors, and agencies, scriptwriters persevere in their work. Success brings credit to the author, but failure can result in fans blaming the scriptwriter as if they were a war criminal.

Furthermore, the second episode of Oshi no Ko season 2 delved deeper into the concept of the game of messages, in addition to the ongoing situation involving the original creator and scriptwriter. Despite Abiko Samejima effectively communicating the changes she wanted from the scriptwriter, the message was altered multiple times by intermediaries, essentially eradicating the initial message altogether.

However, the sole individuals who can be held responsible are the sender and recipient of the message.

The second episode of Oshi no Ko season 2 opened with a flashback to events that occurred prior to the first episode of the anime. Although the non-linear storytelling may have caused some confusion for the audience, it also impeded the excitement of seeing the continuation of Abiko and Goa’s conflict, which fans had been eagerly anticipating from the start of the episode.

Regrettably, the altered sequence of events resulted in fans having to endure an 11-minute wait in order to witness the unfolding of what they had tuned in to see.
