Outrage Among Netizens Over Chef Triple Star’s Personal Life Controversy Ahead of Seoul Culinary Event

On October 30, news broke regarding the chef known as Triple Star (born Kang Seung-won) being embroiled in a “double life” scandal. His ex-spouse, whom he divorced in 2022, has leveled severe accusations against him. She alleges that he secured a position at a Michelin-starred restaurant using funds she provided and claims that he was engaged in relationships with both her and another partner concurrently.

Moreover, a YouTuber has purported that Triple Star tried to misuse funds from the restaurant without his ex-wife’s consent. It was reported that his current restaurant venture was financed by investments of 150 million won each from his ex-wife and parents. However, as the business began to falter, Triple Star allegedly diverted some funds to his parents without informing his ex-wife, a revelation that became one of the reasons for their divorce.

Despite the turmoil in his personal life, Triple Star is scheduled to take part in the upcoming “2024 A500BR Seoul Commemorative Special Popup Event,” a culinary celebration organized by the city of Seoul on November 3.

This event is expected to showcase four exquisite fine dining menus and has attracted significant attention due to the involvement of chefs from Netflix’s “Culinary Class War.” Tickets for the occasion reportedly sold out within a mere 10 seconds of opening.

In light of Triple Star’s controversial circumstances, many netizens have expressed their disapproval and have called for him to withdraw from the culinary event, which is funded by the taxes of Seoul’s residents. However, the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau has confirmed that, “the culinary event’s lineup will proceed as intended.”

The city officials have reiterated their stance, emphasizing that no alterations will be made since this commitment was made to the public, and many individuals likely made reservations anticipating his involvement. They also noted that he has not indicated any desire to step down from his participation.
