A young boy has taken the internet by storm after securing third place in his school’s Halloween costume contest, with many believing he should have clinched the top spot for his fantastic outfit.
Each Halloween, imaginative individuals of all ages showcase their inventive costume creations on social media. While a multitude of outfits are shared, only a few manage to capture widespread attention online.
This year, an elementary student became an internet sensation after his costume garnered third place in his school’s Halloween festivities.
The outfit features the boy sporting a blue button-up shirt paired with cargo pants, both cut in half at the waist. The image has resurfaced as the 2024 holiday approaches, with countless users arguing that this creative attire deserved first prize.
“This kid got third place for THIS costume. How is that even fair?” remarked one widely shared post on X. This tweet, uploaded on Saturday, October 19, has amassed over 56 million views, along with more than 6,400 comments and 457,000 likes.

“If he were my child, I’d personally reward him with a first-place prize. I’d take him to Disneyland or Chuck E. Cheese – one of those places that excite kids. It’s essential to show him that even if he came in third at school, he’s always a first-place winner in my eyes!” responded one commenter.
Another chimed in: “They really did him wrong.”
“He was a guaranteed winner,” a third user stated.
This isn’t the first time this boy’s costume has gained popularity online. The contest took place in October 2023 and quickly went viral on social media. According to a Facebook post, they communicated with the school and learned that the contest included interactive activities and audience engagement, rather than focusing solely on costume design.
Yet another costume making waves this year is Haliey Welch’s ‘Hawk Tuah’ merchandise, which is currently available at Spirit Halloween. Shortly after its launch, shoppers flocked to the store, spurred on by buzz on Instagram and TikTok.
