Apex Legends players are once again expressing their frustration with the game’s skin prices and preference for selling bundles rather than individual skins.
In order to mostly release new skins in bundles with other digital goods, Respawn made adjustments to its Apex Legends cosmetic rollout in early 2024. These bundles can range in price from approximately $25 to $40, depending on the rarity of the included items.
Despite the fact that expensive cosmetics have been a staple in the game for quite some time, there are still skins that can cost players anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on their rarity and the cosmetics included. Nevertheless, the recent release of the Season 22 Born of Blood and Coffin Stuffer bundles has caused some players to express their frustrations on Reddit.
“I can’t believe they’re charging $30 for a skin. I was interested in purchasing the Alter skin, but that’s way too overpriced. The skin should be priced at $20 like before,” a player expressed their frustration on the forum.
Similarly, many others shared the same sentiment and highlighted how the bundles were initially advertised as being “on-sale”from their original price of 6,000 Apex Coins, which is equivalent to $60.
One user jokingly remarked, “Getting $30 out of $61 is such a steal!”
Skin prices have always been a contentious issue in Apex Legends.
One person also expressed that they do not want any of the additional cosmetics included in these bundles and simply desire to purchase the Legend skin at a discounted rate.
Some members of the thread highlighted that Apex Legends skins have been consistently expensive, a fact that has been a source of disagreement among players for a long time.
The pricing of cosmetic items in live service games has once again been called into question following the launch of Spectre Divide. This game had to lower the prices of its initial skin collections, while other games like League of Legends faced criticism for offering expensive bundles such as Faker Hall of Legends skin.
Nevertheless, there are players who have accepted live service cosmetics as the prevailing norm in gaming, and are willing to spend money on the latest, eye-catching cosmetic bundles or skin sets.
Many developers have gone as far as linking esports tournament prize pools to particular cosmetic purchases, providing players with an additional incentive to buy them. However, each individual has a limit on how much they are willing to spend, and it seems that more and more Apex Legends players are reaching that limit.
