The 8.0.5 patch for Destiny 2 was released on August 6, which included adjustments to the drop rates of Exotic class items. However, initial feedback from players has not been favorable.
Despite repeated calls for Bungie to review the difficulty of farming for different Exotic class item rolls since the launch of The Final Shape, these items remain a crucial component for Guardians looking to create Prismatic builds.
The developer has recently implemented changes to the balance in order to address the aforementioned issues. However, whether intentionally or unintentionally, these adjustments seem to have lengthened the process of obtaining loot.
The officially recommended adjustments are the following:
- Adjusted chances for acquiring Exotic class items from chests to be more generous.
- Increased progression on escalation chest chances.
- Removed progression on world chest chances.
- World chests can still drop the item but won’t increase drop chances from future chests.
Exotic Class Items can only drop from Pale Heart activities.
Despite the buffs, a post on Reddit criticizing the post-patch drop rate for class items has received a high number of upvotes. One player even declared, “Three Overthrows for one Exotic class item, this is ridiculous.”
They further stated that completing a single Dual Destiny run takes less time than completing three Overthrows.
Despite acknowledging the possibility of being affected by “bad RNG,”the author was not alone as others also shared comparable encounters.
One person replied, “After two Overthrows and nothing to show for it, I gave up.”Another person lamented, “I have done five and still haven’t received a class item.”
A common frustration among the community was the confusion surrounding Bungie’s choice to decrease the chances of receiving class items from World chests. One member of the community strongly believed that this was a deliberate nerf, stating, “The intention behind this change was obvious. It was much simpler to just run around and open World chests for class items.”
Despite the negative reception from players regarding the drop rate changes, it should be acknowledged that completing Dual Destiny weekly now grants an extra Exotic class item drop. This provides even more motivation for players to farm the co-op mission.
The start of Destiny 2’s yearly Solstice event was also signified by the release of Update 8.0.5.
