“Outrageous” Beetlejuice Drink Criticized for Its Sky-High Price

Fans of Beetlejuice are expressing their discontent regarding AMC’s specialty cocktail, arguing that its price is unjustifiably high.

It’s typical for movies to have food promotional tie-ins, from Terrifier’s Art the Clown popcorn buckets to Deadpool and Wolverine-themed pizzas.

However, supporters of Tim Burton’s latest film have voiced their frustrations over the AMC Beetlejuice 2-themed drink, feeling that the product does not justify its hefty price.

AMC is serving a drink called the Sandworm Slayer, which is a vibrant blue vodka cocktail garnished with sour gummy worms. A movie-goer shared a photo of the drink on X/Twitter, stating, “I bought the AMC BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE themed drink. It cost $31 dollars…”

The user also posted a picture of the cocktail’s official poster, showcasing the beverage in a quirky glass resembling the wriggly shape of the worms depicted in the film.

As expected, some fans expressed outrage over AMC’s decision to offer a “basic” looking drink at such a premium price, sharing their critical views.

“$31 for a little bit of vodka and some gummy worms would make me hate the movie,” one viewer commented, while another added, “This is why people don’t go to the movies anymore.”

A third fan remarked, “Blue Gatorade and ice with some sourpatch gummies. AMC needs to be closed down.”

Despite the seemingly steep price for a cocktail at the movies, several factors might justify the cost.

Firstly, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the drink contains 24 ounces of blue and black raspberry juice combined with “premium vodka,” suggesting that AMC is utilizing higher quality ingredients instead of simple blue Gatorade, which contributes to the pricing.

Secondly, while the user mentioned paying $31 for the drink in California, AMC’s internal research indicates that the price at 92% of their other locations is around $21 plus tax.

With the recent increase in alcohol costs, it’s becoming more common to see cocktail prices range from $18 to $25 in 2024.
