Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft Skin Collaboration Fails to Meet Player Expectations

Blizzard has unveiled its Overwatch 2 x World of Warcraft skin collaboration through a short trailer, and the reaction from fans has been mixed, particularly concerning some design elements.

The developers showcased one of four new skins during the Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, specifically featuring Widowmaker’s Sylvanas skin, which received a more positive response compared to the other skins.

In celebration of World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary, Blizzard will be releasing Sylvanas Widowmaker, Lich King Reinhardt, Thrall Zenyatta, and Diamond Magni Torbjorn on September 17 as part of Season 12.

Fan feedback was immediate and critical. The live chat during the reveal trailer was flooded with negative comments, and the announcement on X received a barrage of discontented replies.

One player expressed disappointment, saying, “[T]hey didn’t put any effort in for Zen and Torb,” accompanied by two crying emojis. Other fans echoed sentiments of disappointment, particularly about Torbjorn’s skin, which is essentially a recolor.

Magni Torbjorn’s design is an older skin, and for the upcoming crossover event, Blizzard opted for a recolor that presents Torbjorn as crystallized diamond.

One comment highlighted the dissatisfaction with the skin, stating, “Torb is just a stupid recolor of a previous skin.” Although a few fans noted the lore reference for the Torbjorn skin, a significant portion of the community was unimpressed by the reuse of existing designs.

Zenyatta’s skin garnered moderate disappointment, while the feedback on Reinhardt’s skin was mixed. Some Reinhardt players appreciated the new collaboration, while others voiced their boredom over yet another crossover skin.

Despite the backlash regarding the other skins, Widowmaker’s design stood out positively. One fan claimed, “Widow is the only W skin in this one.”

In addition to the upcoming OW2 x WoW crossover event, players are exploring the OWL skin sale, and some fans are discovering ideal sniper locations within the game.
