Overwatch 2’s Halloween event has brought some fresh excitement this year, but player reactions to the rewards have been less than enthusiastic.
With the arrival of Season 13, titled Spellbinder, fans have been eagerly anticipating the Halloween festivities. This year’s event stands out with the introduction of a revamped Junkenstein’s Lab mode, which allows players to select from a variety of unique “mutations.”
While this new player-vs-player mode has garnered praise from the community, a significant issue remains. Many players are expressing their disappointment over this year’s reward structure, which offers a mere title and XP. In contrast, past events provided goodies like weapon charms, voice lines, and other appealing items.
A participant in a Reddit discussion aired their grievances, stating: “This Halloween event features just ONE reward—a mediocre title. Oh, and let’s not forget about the XP! Yay for XP!!!” This has led them to feel that “the rewards keep diminishing with each event.”
Players are frustrated that the only rewards from the Halloween event are the “Mutated Monster” title and XP.
Numerous comments echoed these sentiments, with one player lamenting, “I genuinely can’t recall an event more disappointing than this one… even a basic skin would have been preferable. Not even an epic reward?”
Another user remarked that they believed a player icon would have been the least Blizzard could offer, saying, “I guess I was mistaken.” Meanwhile, someone else shared a similar reaction after seeing the update: “Just one reward, and it’s incredibly underwhelming.”
One player suggested that Blizzard could have utilized the S76 or Torb Zombie recolors as part of the rewards. They mentioned, “The skins are mediocre; I doubt anyone will spend money on them.”
Despite widespread dissatisfaction regarding the rewards, some players acknowledged the enjoyment brought by the game mode itself. “The event is a blast; just playing it feels rewarding,” one player noted.
