Overwatch 2 Community Frustrated with Character’s “Scumbag” Playstyle, Calls for Gameplay Changes

The Overwatch 2 community is expressing significant dissatisfaction with Sombra’s design, leading players to call for a comprehensive rework of the hero once again.

For years, Sombra has sparked controversy among players due to her invisibility and hacking abilities, which leave other heroes particularly vulnerable during engagements.

In the Overwatch 2 sequel, Sombra received an overhaul that granted her permanent invisibility, enabling her to easily infiltrate the enemy backline and target support heroes.

Though developers have hinted at a future update to address Sombra’s issues, players are feeling impatient and are demanding urgent revisions to her abilities.

In various threads on the Competitiveoverwatch subreddit, players shared their frustrations regarding encounters with Sombra.

In one post, a player dissected Sombra’s entire kit, expressing their discontent with the lack of enjoyment while facing this hero.

Sombra has become a significant source of frustration for many Overwatch 2 players.

“I’m tired of playing support against a character that can slip into backline positions effortlessly, then wait for me to stand still for a moment before getting eliminated,” they stated. “I’m exhausted by her ability to escape the moment she’s pressured—while theoretically trackable, skilled Sombras always have their escape routes mapped out.”

“She’s uninteractive and unfun. I’d rather face 1000 Orisas than 1 Sombra,” the player added.

Many commenters echoed this sentiment, particularly criticizing Sombra’s permanent invisibility and drawing comparisons to other games that implement stealth mechanics more balancedly.

“What other game features a character that is always cloaked? Every stealth character I’ve encountered in different games has some form of shimmer, outline, or quiet footsteps to indicate their presence… but not Sombra. She’s entirely and permanently invisible, as well as silent. Who thought that was a good design choice?”

“Facing her is simply unenjoyable, and her sneaky, underhanded playstyle exacerbates the issue. It feels frustrating to wait in my spawn during Quickplay,” another player remarked.

Sombra’s rework has left a sour taste for numerous players.

“Sombra drastically diminishes the Overwatch experience for everyone but herself,” lamented another player. “While I understand her concept involves disabling opponents, I believe her entire philosophy requires a redesign. I’d be on board with a complete remake of her character, lore notwithstanding.”

At this point, it remains uncertain what the developers intend to do with Sombra, yet it is becoming increasingly evident that the community is dissatisfied, and her presence is detracting from players’ overall enjoyment of Overwatch 2.
